That Hobbes hes such a romantic.

I love the (fancy word alert) penultimate panel is which Calvin is knocked out of both his galoshes and his shoes. Susie has quite an arm; he’s lucky to still have his socks.

Susie is incensed, of corpse, of corpse!

I love how Hobbes always hides inside a little stuffed tiger whenever anybody else is around.

I had to search the the site for it, but that was really cute!

Love Hobbes’ expressions. Especially panels 2, 4 and 5.

Funny thing about romances in the world of the rich and famous and little boys. It’s always officially denied first even though the world knows otherwise before being finally admitted.

Love in its purest form.

It’s the thought behind it all, and the time he spent to express his hidden feelings. Now that’s what love is all about, even if he wants to keep it a secret from Hobbesuncanny observations.

Panel 10: Suzie walks off thinking “Wow! A card! He does like me!”.

This reminds me of the series where Calvin got Suzie a half-dozen dried flowers from the store’s left-over pile, and made her an insulting card. In the last couple panels, Suzie’s thinking “Flowers and a card! He likes me!”, while Calvin’s lying in the snow thinking “She noticed! She likes me!”, both with stupid grins on their faces.

“Your cheeks are flushed! Your chin quivers to imagine her soft, warm lips pressed against yours! Oh to be locked for eternity in a passionate embrace…”

Sounds like the start of a new writing career for Hobbes, with his first novel, ‘Fifty Shades of Tiger Stripe’!

Just went to the hobbs and bacon comic. Would it be possible for this strip to be re-started and put on this site?

many years later, calvin and susie are married with a daughter. hobbes is still around.

Sigh, only 4 of these were drawn. This would make a great new strip, especially if there was a boy she didn’t like.

I.M.N. Love is a great one. I always liked ‘Lance Romance’.

Nothing says I love you like a worm-eaten corpse. Calvin, you romantic you.

Such a genius! Not only a fabulous artist, able to get all kinds of subtle nuances of expression into each face – he’s also a terrific writer, whether his characters are being hilariously funny or touchingly vulnerable. This particular strip is a classic – every panel a joy!

Does anyone else think that Tim Burton was channeling Calvin’s card when he came up with the idea for “The Corpse Bride”?

The look on Calvin’s face with the atom bomb exploding over it – absolutely priceless….I would love to have a print of that to put on a wall in a certain place…
