I know a fellow who was in the Hitler Youth Party – because he didn’t dare NOT be a member. He did not support Herr Adolf in any way, did not agree with Nazi policies, and didn’t dare say anything negative about the Nazis. So, despite not liking Pope Benedict, I have to say that his membership in the azi Youth Party doesn’t automaticlly make him a bad person. And his retirement brings him up a step in my estimation. But most of his ideals may be repugnant.Danae’s right this time: She IS overqualified.

The best move for Danae would be to start her own denomination (almost typed “demon”-imation). And what would the religions vows possibly be? How about Puberty, Sassiness, and Expedience?

Danae is definitely in line to be a pope. full of it, making things up as you go and screwing over the masses, hating the “other”, using God for personal profit, a whole bunch of traits that are so similar to the Nazi youth movement. or is there any difference? Gosh looking from the outside in, it’s hard to see much difference between the Religion of the Right and the Fanaticism/Fascism of the Right.

First off, you never have to donate money, although I have heard of some diocese that has done that. Second, even if you do donate money, the majority goes to a good cause, Catholics have the biggest organizations for world wide relief. Third, I will admit, there have been some corrupt clergy, and there always will be, but the Catholic Church itself is really awesome. Fourth, are you an evolutionist? Because It would be easier to explain my POV why there is a God and why I choose to be a Catholic.

First off, only an idiot would think that evolution could of happened without any supernatural help. And if you’re a supernatural being who is all powerful, then you can create the world in six days. Plus, I believe that the world is a lot older, about six-four billion years ago the Church doesn’t talk too much about how old the earth is because it’s not really important. Plus, I also believe in the Big Bang, only I think God started it, not some theory that particles can actually start themselves up from a little ball. If you look at a human body, you should realize there is no way evolution could work out so perfectly. And if you’ve ever read Darwin’s book on evolution, he admits that there are a lot of flaws, especially without proof of fossils, he adds that he hopes that the “missing links” will be found eventually. And not even one has been found.

That’s a good point, they are made for different things, but they aren’t better than the other.

I have to admit, you seem to have a gift for arguing your point well and not insulting anyone in the process. So as a quick apology, sorry to anyone I might of called an idiot in my former comment, I was a little heated and caught in the moment.

The problem with your point of view, is that not all religions say that, while I do think that the Islamists can be pretty violent, The majority of Christians, especially Catholics, donate most of their money to the poor, you can see it everywhere, Feed my Starving children is a good example. I don’t believe that the Catholic Church was manmade, the only manmade parts are the churches given to honor God. And here’s the thing, man seeks for truth, that’s undeniable, I have looked at many, many, other religions, and the Catholic church has every answer for all of my questions. Without God, there would be chaos, for who is going to hold us responsible to our actions? That’s where morals come from. Besides, the closest thing to a Catholic persecution is the Spanish Inquisition, which, if you look at it, was not at all that bad. THe results were more true converts, not people trying to kill others for not believing them.

Dude, how many people were killed during the spanish inquisition? about 30-80 a year, plus, look at other religions and how many people they have killed. Let’s see, as far as what was created solely by man is the vestments, statues, and churches. Other then that, everything else was inspired by God through man. It happens even nowadays, look around you!

I did not forget about that, and I was waiting for you to bring it up. First off, the muslims were slaughtering jews and christians alike. If you were in charge of a people, and they were being killed, what would you do? I sure hope you wouldn’t sit by and do nothing. Plus, the muslims were the first aggressors, not the christians, they even went into Spain and started killing people until Saint Fernando III of Castile drove them out, in Spain, his feast day is a national holiday, that’s when they run the bulls. So yes, once again, if people were killing innocents, what would you do?

I did get it right the first time, you however, ignored the main points I was making. What’s wrong with plenary indulgences first off? The crusaders were going to fight for God! Now, some crusaders, on the other hand, were mercenaries who just wanted money. And first off, what point is this copied article making? its just showing that the muslims and christians both had conflicts, but the article left out something important. And that was who was the aggressor, this article does a good job not leaning towards any side and is not really offending any religion. If they offended the muslims, you would here no end to it. In fact, the Egyptians are actually contemplating banning YouTube for several months just because of the “Innocence of Muslims” video. If you read any unbiased history book, you will see that the muslims were the first aggressors. I can verify that from even atheist books!

I’ve spent many hours in enjoyment of his works, and learned that opinions are valueless without reliable information to back them. .The working of life are subtle and beautiful. Science continues to reveal this..That no doubt sounds like something Miller’s Obviousmanwould say.

Let me Clarify something, The Catholic Church is infallible. However, there are and have been corrupt members. I remember there have been several Popes (Like Alexander the something) have been really evil. But the Church overall is a really beautiful thing. I may sound like some granny saying that, but I am proud of it. I was not born into the Catholic Church, I chose it, if you have an open mind and a ready heart, it has answers for everything. Think about it.

Okay, dude, you clearly misunderstood what I said. The Catholic CHURCH, as you would say, “the religion” is infallible. BUT there are people who are and have been corrupt. A Pope has never actually made a statement that the Catholic Church is wrong about something. Some have tried to, but something always got in the way, normally divine intervention. There is an interesting story on that, I would tell you it but I need to find the evil Pope first.And besides, there have been way too many good Popes when compared to the bad ones.

That would be weird if that place existed, and it’s not the Pope who has complete control over everything we say and do, it’s God, in case that’s not clear.

Ladies and gentlemen; if you’ve just joined us you are obviously aware of the heated debate going on. On one hand we hear that the Catholic Church is wonderful and on the other hand we are told that it isn’t..So far no one has mentioned that religions involve rich organisations telling poor people what to believe and do. Why are we not allowed to have our own beliefs and opinions and form our own philosophies as and when we need them, without being criticised? Religion should be a choice and not something that is forced upon us as children..Let’s get on with life how we want to live it.

Actually, none of these are specifically true.

God does not speak through the Pope—rather say that God guides the Pope to make correct decisions when needed for the good of the people of God.

There is an acceptable form of birth control—Natural Family Planning—which relies on communication, discipline, self-control, mutual decision making—which, incidentally, help make marriage a success, last I checked.

It is not family problems but sins which are encouraged (or yes, required when serious enough) to be taken to a priest—so that they may be forgiven, and so that the person can be better equipped to make a good choice for him- or herself in resolving those problems.

The poor are often more willing to share what little they have than those richer than them. And the charities of the Church, such as Catholic Relief Services, are very efficient at administering their resources. Also, the Church is not just one organization—it is many thousands, working together.

So the Church of Danae fizzled…So she is moving forward into another Phantasmic Phantasy….anyone here remember the Phantasm movies? I grant you they were gruesome for the time….well Danae reminds me of the shiny ball that killed people in those movies…go after anything she wants….inspite of anything that stands in her way.

I see your point. However, there are several problems, first of all, that was probably a corrupt priest, like I was talking about before. Second off, they Catholic Church doesn’t permit gays. Or, say if someone was gay, they have resources to help them out. A forced donation is wrong, and that goes to the corruption part again, but the gay marriage dogma of the church still stands. Trust me, I really do feel bad for your friends, but they were committing mortal sin. However, it was still wrong of that priest to talk to them about it in that way with forced donations, he could of done a much better job.

Masterskrain: I have only one observation ,that is that you MUST be a Dr. Who fan….not only that but a true Daelek….in the current series on BBC America , Daeleks seem to be the one creature that comes back to life and turns up most often after being suposedly anialated (sp?) during the time of the 10th Doctor.

Dude, I keep saying, there was, have been, and always will be corruption! YOU keep ignoring that fact! People will be good, and others will be bad! I don’t know how many times I have to say this! And yes, I heard that, that doesn’t mean that the Catholic Church doesn’t support it! Unlike many other religions, Catholics don’t “adjust” to the time, we stay true to the teachings we were taught!

No one has the right to tell another how to live his or her life. For an organisation (or business) that is supposed to “loves ones neighbour” and forgive sins to do something like this to two innocent followers is beyond unforgivable..It’s things like this that make me more open to Buddha’s teachings than anything else. Our beliefs belongs inside us, not in big buildings and multi billion dollar black holes.

So, why would Danae want to be Pope? After all, she’s already created her own Church — and she has followers. Now all she needs is the tax write-off…

People, time to just STFU. We all know the Catholic Church is bass ackwards regarding a lot (they didn’t admit Galileo was right about the Earth not being the center of the universe until 1939 and cited the “Greatest Invention for Women in the Past Millenium” to be the laundry washer!). But the flames here would melt titanium. Grow a sense of humor or stop reading the COMICS! Take the polemic pontification over to the editorials or, better yet, offline.

I am slowly but surely getting better. Not everything is where I want it tobe. But, I did survive Parris Island and a year in Vietnam. I can do this.

I went to Catholic school for the first five years of education. We learned evolution in science. They have no problem with it…It’s about the only nice thing this recovering Catholic can say about the church…

I’d say Danae is waaaayyyy over qualified.
