(Pounds the desk) I KNEW it! My cat IS a scientific genius. The sudden ‘whuh’ look given mid-lick is merely her mentally going over the isotopic variables that have been eluding her during the ‘midnight freak-out running through the room’ that I experience when all this time she was actively doing science computations. It’s official: I have the feline-female Sheldon Cooper.
Mine will every once and a while just stare at the ceiling, waiting for us to look as well. Once that happens, then he stops staring….I swear I hear him chuckling.
I have a cat story from yesterday. She lay down on the indoor-outdoor carpet between two chairs that have X bases and casters. There wasn’t much room. When she got up a claw on her right front paw hooked into the carpet and she looked like she was doing the hokey pokey trying to step this way and that.I moved a chair so she could get the angle to unhook her claw. Rescue complete.
It’s the Higgs boson. Boson isn’t the name of one of the physicists who worked on the original theory; a boson is a type of elementary particle. (Several scientists did come up with the same idea at about the same time, and Peter Ware Higgs is one of them.)
I see. The Higgs bosun (note the lower case B) exists only between a cats’ hind legs – and is snuffed out by licking. No wonder it was so hard to find!

That is because cats were once treated as Gods and they have not forgotten this.
