I don’t think the Nitrous Oxide is intended for ‘rocket propulsion’. In a car, it is injected into the engine, to boost performance. though, given the historical perspective on witches and broomsticks, it may be for breathing, instead of broom performance.
Nitrous Oxide is contained in the “Bottle”,which is usually constructed of thick-walled aluminum. The gas is dispersed by opening the valve on top of the bottle and then directed by some sort of tube or hose into the intake manifold. It is much denser than air thus resulting in higher compression when the piston reaches top dead center. It is actually a non-flammable gas. It is also used in the dentists office to put a patient to sleep. Commonly referred to as " Laughing Gas ". So it IS pointed in the correct position. JoJo Da Bulldog knows !!
Using nitrous oxide in a jet engine has been tested by the Air Force. It was tested as a means to shorten the take off of fighters. The amount of thrust generated when the NOS was injected at take off was said to be “insane”. I do not think it ever got past the testing phase.
You all realize, of course, that it isn’t the broom that flies, it’s the witch. The broom merely gives her a place to sit. Harry Potter not withstanding.

@MeMow—-I agree. The bottle appears to be mounted backwards, & if set off in the present configuration, will give witch quite a thrill.

That witch should take precautions to make sure she doesn’t slide off, like Broom Hilda did this week.
