Reading this one I just flash to one of my favorite dog moments. I my lab mix tried to climb a tree after he almost caught a squirrel on the ground. With me and my brother standing there he attempted, for the first time, to climb a tree. Lept up it a couple times and even got some impressive distance. But it wasn’t going to happen.
I think the squirrel might have enjoyed if it caught it. He just wanted to slurp it. That mutt was many things, but predator was not on that list. Otherwise why did kittens bully him?
Animal behavior expert Temple Grandin claims that squirrels actually do taunt dogs just for fun. I know our cat did. He would walk over and lie down next to our neighbor’s chain link fence with their Rottweiler, Scharnhorst, going nuts just inches away on the other side. The cat acted like the Scharnhorst wasn’t even there but i know he was really loving it.
Several houses and a couple of dogs ago, there was a squirrel who would run along the power lines (maybe it was the cable or phone lines) that were over the area where the dog was leashed up when she was outside. Any time the dog was out, the squirrel would walk along the line and drop hickory nuts on her head.
We had a boarding kennels, and a neighbors cat would regularly come over and stretch out on a nearby stump to taunt the dozens of dogs into apoplexy. Cats are evil.

I hate the giant title panels and tiny comic ones.

I had to move our squirrel corn feeder to the front yard because the squirrels would throw kernels at ours (shades of Bip and Bop in “Mutts”).
