So – Les and More are honorary uncles. Which still leaves open the question – how did Sluggo come to own the house where he has been living? (If Sluggo was only renting the house, he surely would have needed to ask for the landlord’s permission before beginning to patch the place up!1)

Suspention of disbelief while we digest the record of events that happened decades ago, shown in the context of modern day appearances and equipment……..

Sure! Two truckers taking a little kid on a road trip. What could go wrong? (Fritzi is way too trusting.)

Since Les and More aren’t his legal uncles, then I suspect that Sluggo just moved into an abandoned house. Still doesn’t answer as to where his other relatives are.

People complain about Alley Oop and Gasoline Alley getting way off base, but now this one is getting way out in left field. Never heard of these guys for 80 years and suddenly they show up. If they are legally responsible for Sluggo they should be arrested for abandonding him in an unsafe house with no food.

The April/May issue of Reminisce Magazine has a 1934 comic, Fritzi Ritz. Fritzi had the strip first before Nancy came into it!

This is a Reboot, folks….and I’m glad you care so much about the characters. This story, and this strip…happens in the NOW….in Comic Land. Not in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s…etc. Eighty years is a lot of stories and a lot of jokes. Much of what Ernie wrote in the early days has been forgotten. Some story lines never finished up. This is a comic strip, remember. Thankfully, not real life. As the writer of this feature, I work at moving forward….without losing our base. As we go through this year..you will meet old characters again(some of you for the first time) and new characters in our comic strip world. I’ll be tying up loose threads from many years ago…and retelling some of the historic stories to bring you up to date. But, remember. This is NOW. Les and ‘More are new characters. They represent many characters" uncles" that were always mysteriously not there, or had been there and gone… that Ernie eluded to over the years….but, also….they are my creations. You’ll get to know them over time. God bless our Veterans. God bless our truck drivers and all the hard working people who make our lives better through the sweat on their brow. My thanks to the 200+ new subscribers we have since we started the retelling at Christmas!

And thank you Guy for breathing life into this classic, and caring enough to come to this board and share with us.

Truly folks – take a breath and watch it unfold.

At one time in this country a trusted friend or even an older sibling could watch over children in need without so much as a raised eyebrow, much less a court decree. Sometimes it was a necessity.

I kinda figured that Les would be the tall one and ’More would be the short one.

Well, this is a good re-boot. But, as you keep adding more stuff there are plot complications.

Like Guy said, this is a reboot… Fergit the past. The story begins anew. I’m starting to believe that some of our readers actually believe soaps are real.

This is a very exciting development. I happen to be enjoying the Les and Mor characters. I hope they become regular features and we can have new set of story arcs with them and Nancy, Sluggo, and Fritzi.

with all due respect, it’s still lame. even a “re-booted” comic strip has to make internal sense and honor its characters, given its classic status. and changing from a joke-a-day format to the storyline format is ok, as long as the stories are strong. we see this problem (regarding the stories) playing out with alley oop — i hope it doesn’t happen here.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the comments Guy, you aren’t doing anything different than Marvel and DC comics, who have been rebooting their comic books over the last 30 years. Paramount even rebooted Star Trek. This is a new generation where Nancy listens to an iPod, Fritzi blogs about music and Sluggo is getting new ‘uncles’. There’s a whole group of new readers out there who will embrace Nancy and the rest, just as we have. Thanks for all that you’ve done.

@Guy Gilchrist : I’m enjoying the look into the characters’ pasts! I’m vaguely aware of the history, and even that is through Google, so it’s all a nice change of pace from the usual fare, which was still enjoyable enough that I’ve read the strip daily for years!
