If I could title this, or make it a song, it’d be Long Distance Love, Long, Distant Love, or Love From Far Away….or something like that….

When I read, I imagine Sluggo’s voice as being juuuuust slightly south of Froggy’s voice (from Little Rascals), but not quite…. a lot less raspy, but still just a little reminiscent of that.

These days, it seems that we all in one way or another are losing the balance between imagination and the “realities” we see every day (quotations on the word realities, just to make a point…)…. there’s way too many stories of P.C., and negative and depressing news these days…. trying to force everything into a mold… —————————————a story is a STORY for a reason…. plant seeds of hope…. get refreshment from the depression out there….. Do wabbits really talk? do frogs and pigs and bears dream of all kinds of adventures, and befriend blue “wierdos” who someday venture into show biz? What about starships with holodecks and transporters, or secret agents with shoephones and catchphrases, or vita-veeta-veggi-vita…vita-veet—? Who’s “the Walrus”? Or does a “real” Batman go out and catch the bad guy in vigilante ways that skirt the law? Think of every tv show, every SONG, even that movie we just saw…. do ALL of the things that happen in them, happen in real life?——————————————There’s a line between: 1. the outside world/reality and 2. fiction

    - if we know it, we should rest assured of that divide, and just enjoy the story…. maybe in real life some of those things could happen, maybe some things seem like they should happen,or maybe some of those things that happen in stories, we feel shouldn’t happen… but why do we even read Nancy, or any comic? Guy and all those before him who brought us Nancy, and many talented writers and artists of other strips past and present provide us with the fruits of their talents and hard work: amusement, refreshment, and a breath of change…..

Most ’Nam vets are in their 70s & 80s, too old to be driving the big rigs every day.

I’ve heard it said that friends are the family we choose.

From your comments it seems you are quite a compassionate soul and care deeply about those in need.

I share those views, however in my experience the government is not always the best possible solution to ensure a child’s welfare.

The government. Now there’s a perfect way to foul up the situation. The “government” would put Sluggo back in an orphanage, from which he would promptly run away.

The story noted that Fritzi and others agreed not to say anything to child Services. The guvmint waits for a report. no repor, no action.Enjoy the ride.BTW, I’m 60. Got several friends who are Vietnam Vets. Big bro would have been 67 is still alive and he was a trucker.Les & More are 50-60 something truckers. Would take that long to grow the beards. Ms. Newman is a seasoned commenter, and as IGoPogo4 so nicely points out, Ms. Newman also expresses care and concern from her heart, which I find very nice…. why can’t we all express our differing points of view, without having to resort to namecalling?

Thanks, folks. My two brothers are Viet Nam era Vets, and I am 56, one year younger than the last draft. I salute all who served and are serving. Thank you.

Hey, they always say better late than never…. Even if you’re arriving late, at least you can say you’ve arrived!
