In collecting some Speed memorabilia, I found out some interesting facts…. the wordplay of “G” on his shirt also stands for “Go”, Speed’s first name in the Japanese version (And conveniently, “Go” also means 5 in Japanese.) -——And the “M” on the Mach 5 and Speed’s helmet really= Mifune Motors, which is Speed’s Japanese family name and Pop’s business, and also pays tribute to a Japanese film star named this….and another reason to tie in Racer X, who also had the “M” on his race suit…-——And also of note, “Gogogo”, is also al Japanese sound effect symbolizing “Rumble”.
I also heard rumor that Toshiro Mifune was a godan (analogous to fifth degree black belt) in kendo (two-handed fencing). If so, it would continue the five association.

Great! Now I am going to sing “Go Speed Racer” every time I beat a red light by a nanosecond.

I also remember an arcade game and a PS video game from the 90s (not the more recent “movie” version) that’s very rare, now….

“Here he comes! Here comes Speed Racer! He’s a lunatic on wheels! He’s a reckless speed demon, and he’s gonna end up killing someone!”

If he sings that tune, what does his Mother sing when she’s driving?

It’s better luck than humming the bluegrass music that Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane had going when he chased the Dukes! lol!
