Boggs never used an aluminum bat in high school, because it would mess up his swing for pro ball. His dad had him hook sliding at age 5, and made him a LH batter for that one step closer to first base. Like Bryce Harper, who got a GED so he could play in a wooden-bat juco league, he just knew he was going to play pro ball.
