My mom wanted to do all that, too, when I was sick, so she took a day off work and took a bus for 6 hours (telling me only when she was already in bus); only she found my MIL (who lives much nearer so had an advantage) already busy with cooking and babysitting, so all that was left for her to do was to sit at the edge of my bed, stare at me with worried eyes and occasionally sigh or touch my forehead for temperature.
I feel for Lila. She wants to be independent and cut the apron strings from her mom, but her mom just won’t let her. Sometimes it’s better to let your child be on their own, even if it means occasionally not being there to support them.
I hear lot of times better to marry and have children after 30. Not true. Better 20 married to have children. My mom had me at 30 and now 40 or so years later I’m the caregiver and when I get sick I have only me to take care of. When my mom gets sick at 88 I have to take care of her.
My grandfather told me of a old mountain man cure for the common cold. It used a Hudson Bay blanket and a jug of Jack Daniels. The heavy blanket made you sweat it out. Drink enough of the Jack, and it kept you from kicking off the blanket. Worked every time. Usually within 3 days.

I miss my mom most when I’m sick.
