Mel: Hey, dad. Ready to go? Dad: I am. Like some coffee first? Mel: Thanks, but Roz is waiting out in the car. Dad: Roz? You still hang out with Roz? Mel: Uh... sure. Why wouldn't I? Dad: You're not worried she'll hit on you? Mel: No, I'm careful, dad. I keep my hair long.

Daughters ALL develop ways of âmanagingâ Fathers. If not, no Boyfriendâs would survive long enough to become Son-In-Laws!

Dadâs are the last (and most often never) ones to get stuff like this. The common refrain in my house is âOh, Dad!â

About the folded newspaper yesterday. That reminded me of the news item about the Major League Baseball expansion to develop a team in the Philippines.
Located in the Capital City, they will be known as the âManila Foldersâ.

I had a gay friend several years ago, but nobody even suggested that I might be, also. He was just part of the group, and we accepted him.

Pretty much a ladies combat zone âdoâ.
Fits under the standard helmet and even provides a bit of cushioning should something or someone blow up in front of you. See how well it worked with her dad.

If a man is scared of another man hitting on him, he is really scared that he might accept. I wouldnât be afraid, unless they could overpower me and force themselves on me.

I have had some very close gay friends. None of the men ever hit on me and I never hit on the women.

Sheâs not in combat. Sheâs a helicopter mechanic (in Afghanistan, yes, but not in a ârifle companyâ).

Unless you cut it really short â like, an inch or less â itâs going to look messy. Long hair in a bun looks neater than short hair going every which way. Plus, most women in the military like to be able to look more feminine out of uniform. I always had mine long, and I considered cutting it short, but the problem is that if you donât like it short, or if the style doesnât look neat an professional, youâre stuck. The medium-length stage that you have to go through to grow it out long again is almost impossible to get to uniform standards â itâs too short to neatly pin up, and too long to wear loose or just clipped back (has to be above the bottom of the collar). Some military women do keep their hair short, but as long as itâs within regs, having it long is okay. I used to keep a plastic box of elastics, clips, and pins in our detachment orderly room â so if I told a female that her hair had to be neater, I could immediately give her the tools to make the improvement. An important tenet in performance counseling â you canât just say âdo betterâ, you have to give them a way to do it.

âWhy is it that women donât cut their hair short for the military? It is stupid not to. Long hair in combat is an error.â-No problem, they arenât supposed to be in combat. If that changes, a quick snip rectifies the situation.
