I have one, a large one, that sleeps between the printer and the keyboard shelf. Unfortunately, that’s about a 2/3 cat space. Paws are always over the keyboard, and tail over the mouse pad. When kitty gets nervous, her tail will hit the mouse. Surfing the web can often be quite an adventure. She makes me visit places I would never think of going.
We had a cat that was my mom’s, or rather mom was hers. When that cat deigned to come and sit on you or buy you, it was an honor! And if she was purring, a special honor! “Cat on Lap” was an accepted and recognized exception to any and all other obligations. (I miss my own purring kitten!)
Many years ago we rescued a mother cat & her five adorable kittens. My husband was Not a cat" man. Ha! One early morning he got up & didn’t come back to bed. I finally got up to see why. There he sat quietly on a little three legged stool with his back on the wall & his legs outstretched with five little kittens all over him. He said “they fell asleep”.
cats are always an excuse! we all know they’re in charge!! ours occasionally makes my boyfriend late to work by putting him back to sleep when he’s trying to get ready….He’ll show up, sit on your chest and purr, putting you to sleep
Funny, everyone saying they go out of their way not to disturb the sleeping cats. I seem to recall the cats I’ve owned pouncing on my face to wake me up in the morning.

They will forgive you if you move them off your lap, just as long as you continue to feed them.

The only command our dachshunds obey is “Excuse me”, when we need them off our laps.
