RENT N STOR
MRS OLSEN MUG SALE
Frazz: Nice crowd. You've sold 398 "world's greatest teacher" mugs. Mrs Olsen: What? I've never owned more than a couple. Frazz: And 1,841 total. Mrs Olsen: What? This sale started with 962. Frazz: Like I said: nice crowd.
I think people keep buying the mugs and immediately re-gifting her with them.âŚor to put it another wayâŚThey are gifting her with money! My guess is most of them are either former students or parents of current students.
No, there arenât really extra mugs, just people donating money without really buying the âgreatest teacherâ mugs. I believe thatâs what Frazz means in the last panel.
Like how we remember a âMiss Doveâ or a âMr Chipping,â the people are showing their appreciation for her actions with the girl and how she has been to the community as a whole. The key here is Frazz saying âNice crowdâ. We may laugh at her from Cauffieldâs point of view but she does care, and Frazz himself is always wonderful as the mediator between the perception and the reality Nice job, Jef.
Iâve been thinking maybe Mrs. Olsen really does know how many mugs she started out with, and that the parents (and perhaps grown-up former students, like Frazz) have been âbuyingâ nonexistent mugs as a way of giving to Mrs. Olsen. Hence my earlier comment about âbuying one for the price of two.â Frazzâs repeated ânice crowdâ remark might support that. After all, Mrs. Olsenâs recent heroism may have got peopleâs attention and got them thinking thereâs more to her than they thought. What if all those ethereal mugs were listed as âWorldâs Greatest Teacherâ mugs?!

@bigpuma, re oh-so-many hours agoâŚLengthening the alliteration, howâs about âfractious, fault-finding fussbudgetâ?

Ah. Now itâs clear why she didnât know she had so many âWorldâs Greatestâ mugs. They arrived during the sale.

People probably brought mugs they wanted to get rid of and just donated them to a good cause ⌠sort of like a rummage sale.

I suspect the extra mugs came from some of the other teachers, who wanted to get rid of their own stockpiles.

I can go with frustrated, flummoxed, and flabbergasted, but Iâll insist on throwing in âfrabjous.â (âŚshe chortled, etcâŚ.)
