Poor Holly, reminders of her ordeal everywhere she goes.

At least Allgood got it quick, shot before getting hung. Better than strangling.

Ignorance is bliss. Not that she hasn’t seen it before, but reality kicking her in the face is a step in the right direction. She will be stronger if it doesn’t break her.

just stop reading it if you are getting too depressed. I had to quit reading Lost tales of suburbia, when it seemed like Chupi was getting hit, kicked, torn and worse every day. I began re-reading it once they killed her and couldn’t hurt her anymore.

Poor Holly, seeing that just added more trauma. She slowed to a stop for a moment but Wally hasn’t caught up to he yet.Whatever she needs to recover, whatever it can be, the running, the clock tower, getting caught by Wally.

Sigh. computer won,t for a week. However, this is a good run for it,, no pun allowed. Wally has got to know where she is going or Linda will. The elevator to the top too either look about or jump. I hope Linda talks her out of anything. Blessed Be

“If the polls had actually been true, he would have had the town witch hunting mutant byproduct users and lynching them instead of getting lynched himself.”Quit making crap up. Allgood would have passed a law against the use and consumption of by-products, which could be extended against cannibalism. Offenders would be arrested, tried and sentenced under Endtown’s existing legal system. Allgood just wanted to stop the practice, he wasn’t interested in punishing the offenders. If Jackrabbit hadn’t hacked the switchboard to redirect calls from the police to Security, the police would have been handling by-product law enforcement. Witch hunts are Jake’s legacy; Allgood would have been above that.

Recruit more cops, and you give Jake more opportunities to put his people in positions of authority. Interestingly, Jake may come forward and make the offer himself. “Hi, Mayor. I hear you have a police shortage problem. Care to borrow some of my supporters? They’d be glad to help find the criminal for you.”

I wish Walt or the cop had noticed Holly and her reaction and grabbed her up and at least tried to make soothing and comforting noises. held her and let her cry it all out. By them Wally would have caught up and carried her to her nice Clean home and soothed her until she can sleep.

JusSpeculatin here, but IMO Holly is running away from herself because she thinks this is all her fault, because she set Linda up at Maude’s, and got her a job in the cafe and set the chain of events in motion. She would be wrong, but I could see some survivor’s guilt, even before she knew Octavius and thirty or more people died.

did I get the code and spelling right this time?

Poor, poor pitiful me. I grew up reading Dondi and Little Orphan Annie, and it seemed neither of them could catch a break. We had no Doonesbury or Calvin and Hobbes comics or even Bloom County, But I kept coming back, and I would also read Beetle Bailey and Peanuts, because I had a taste for well-written drama and well-written humor. If you sit back and enjoy the ride, I think you will come to appreciate Endtown, both the story-telling and the art. Maybe someone reading these tales, and go on to be leader of some nuclear power, and remember not to blow up the planet, or loose some mutagen that was meant to turn rats into soldiers and have some implementation problems.Relax and think of England, they have a new prince. Congratulations to all the Commonwealth.JusSayin

Uh, easier to cut him down, rather than untie the knot. Just knock at a door and borrow one from somebody’s kitchen.

Too bad, but I think we might lose our kind and gentle Holly to a more hardened one. Nice expression from Holly in panel 3. Guess when one stops running, one is confronted with things one doesn’t necessarily want to see. She should have kept going.

Chief Grout has it correct. No one is going to come forward on anything that occurred like who tossed the bottle, who shot Allgood, who all strung him up. That image of Allgood is going to leave a mark on Holly. If she gets to the graveyard and sees all the freshly laid concrete? Her idealistic opinion about Endtown is shattered. This is going to be hard to repair.

One thing to keep in mind about Allgood:As Jake said, Allgood only had 25 actual followers. We can assume that Jake was being insulting when he called them all “dim bulbs”, so maybe a couple were sincere about keeping their old values. But, that’s 25 followers compared to Jake’s hundreds. Jake never saw Allgood as competition or as a serious threat. He was just “a lone voice out in the woods”. The thought of commandeering the HC never occurred to him. He didn’t want to violently force people to his way of thinking, instead he wanted an “honest meeting of minds”. Left to his own devices, Allgood would have died of old age in obscurity.

I’m hoping that going through this will temper Holly’s spirit. She may have been more than a little naive before this, thinking that certain things could never happen in Endtown. Now she has seen that it isn’t true, will she just retreat into herself like Wally has done, or will she become stronger, learn to accept the truth and do what she can to make things better.

Complete Quote: “If ignorance is bliss, then ’tis folly to be wise.”Interesting selective memories; people here are always mentioning how much they like Flask, yet they forget just how calously she persecuted and killed anyone she disliked. So how is Jake different? In any story, much like real life, it has to get very dark before the dawn comes. Don’t blame Aaron for being a realistic storyteller.

Change of storyline (as I guess it): Holly DOES run home only to find the couch in the window. I just had and afterthought: Was Holly still in the paddy wagon in front of their place and see the couch get thrown through the window? If so, she would definitely know that Wally hadn’t done anything for the last month. THEN she runs off to the clock tower. I don’t thnk she would be going by the cemetery as that seems to be in another cavern. She will probably learn about the riot somehow. If my guess is correct, Wally’s gonna be in deep doo-doo.

Earlier this month I mentioned Bastille Day, and what caused the first or second Republic to fall and lead to the Reign of Terror,or the Terrors, was that their Parliament was selected pretty much like Endtown’s High Council was selected, except for the anonymity. Just one of those serendipitous(?) things that involves the reader. We may not consciously remember Grade School world history, but according to Stella Maris’ Memory Map, there is far more going on in our minds that cause group actions, because the pastiche which is memory recognises patterns, and attaches to what is subconsciously sensible(look, a pair o’ docks) and familiar and hopefully sublime rather than painful. I understand prints may be available, and this is a good time to look at a previously sold original scene. Remember this look now, and in the days to come. Better Times, AKA, Holding On

Oh, don’t think Marx likes it any better than you do. The only difference is that he’s seen what happens if this doesn’t. In order to survive, Endtown had to lose its trust in the rats — and by extension the High Council — and begin handling its own affairs directly, rather than being a bunch of mushrooms. By comparison, the ability to vary their diet by using mutant eggs and milk is nothing.

An offhand weird comment…it’s said that Allgood was shot in the back and then hung…but it doesn’t say that he’s dead. That’s the way the betting runs but it doesn’t actually say…#I’d put Jake Jackrabbit on the top of the list of suspects…this could be the Reichstag Fire event that consolidates his rule…
