My folks both worked, & the rules were nobody could come over while they were gone. Summers were booooorrrring until Mom made me go to summer school one year when my grades were mediocre. Didn’t much like the classes, but it did give me something to do, so for the following three summers until I graduated, I went again, taking fun classes of my own choosing (Art, Creative Writing, Drama). It was fun and kept me from being bored. Of course, in this economy, summer school is a thing of the past, too bad.
My girls have been looking forward to going back to school since the last bell of the last day. They go back tomorrow; today is going to be a L-O-N-G day! At least we get to go meet the teachers today.
Our school started this morning. I love the grandkids, but also understand bwana’s “wall-of-sound” reference. Our “wall of sound” resumes at 4:00 here, too.
Susan, I have a kid. He grew up, but I still live in the “burbs” because I choose to. Bawana is right, when school lets out for the day, kids will be around making a lot of noise. Fortunately for me, I don’t mind the “wall of sound”. Kids happily playing make one of the best sounds in the world.
Loved going back to school cuz of the new clothes and new grade level. Experienced died in the 11th year. Resurected in grad years (minus the clothing excitement).

I always felt like this on the last week of summer too… the feeling only lasted until the end of the first day back!

it’s the same at our house. You could power a small city with the energy build up to the first day of school.

My kids look forward to the start of school, but I think this feeling will end when they start middle school.

I started school in 1956 and intend to graduate (retire) next month. I guess I liked going back to school too!

I always looked forward to school. That’s when vacation started. I had to work during the summer.
