Transcript:
Penguin 1: Honey, go catch us some fish. I'm hungry. Penguin 2: Dear... look. Penguin 1: You're not here to eat us, are you? Polar Bear: Uh... no. Penguin 1: You're safe.
This comic contains talking animals, a good case of assault most days, and breaking the fourth wall. And people are up in arms because polar bears are in the south pole, or penguins in the north pole? Really?
“I get so tired of the pius comments by know-it-alls who cant just sit back and enjoy a funny. Idiots.”>Me too. They do it in all the popular comments sections. In some of the most realistic strips they might have a point, sort of, but here their comments are just plain ridiculous.
Listen everyone: They are in a big zoo exhibit. The penguins took a nice little nap on their ice sheet. During that time, an underpaid teenage worker opened the gate that separates the polar bear exhibit from the penguin’s. ALL PROBLEMS RESOLVED (except personnel issues, and finding 2 new penguins for the exhibit).
Ya’ll are in error assuming Pastis made a mistake with species. Since they are depicted with polar bears, those birds are clearly puffins, not penguins. Pastis does, however make mistakes. For instance, he thought today’s strip was funny.
Not all penguins live in the antarctic; there are (wild) penguins living just a few miles from me, yet it never snows here… Mind you, we don’t have any polar bears or icebergs!
I like this strip because Pastis realizes that in this age, the strip itself is only half the humor. The other half is what he can pull out of the woodwork with his “Moron-Magnet” of people who think the cartoons are the equivalent of The Discovery Channel so they can debate it.
Yeah! Yeah!, I KNOW, it’s a comic strip, but I need to add my comment to others who have noticed that if the animal is a Polar Bear it is 12,000 miles off course, if it is a Leopard Seal the strip is accurate. Even in a comic strip you need to be somewhat accurate. Thanks Mike Rice Operation Deep Freeze Winter-Over 70.
It’s amazing how nobody here even noticed the real joke — Mrs. Penguin’s casual attitude toward Hubby’s safety while he goes out to provide for her and she stays (relatively) safe on the ice.
Can’t spend an hour watching TV, on the computer, listening to the radio or drive 1200 feet without being bombarded by pop-ups, commercials, side-ads, radio ads and/or roadside LCD signstelling us how much we’d save in car insurance if we’d only switch to GEICO/ALLSTATE/PROGRESSIVE/STATE FARM..or worse. We’d all be better of if they’d cut their advretising by 2/3rds..I’m sicka blowing $1700 bux a year on two 8 year old vehicles.Insurance………………Can’t live with it, and can’t drive withOUT it !
I’ve read the previous comments about the point of the joke, but still don’t get it. Maybe age just claimed the rest of my connect-the-dots neurapses.Re: Obnoxious commercials, my daughter can’t stand the Dannon lady.
Scientists are so worried about polar bear survival. WHY? Just take a few breeding pairs and populate Antarctica with them. I’m sure they’ll adapt to a diet of Penguin and leopard seals in no time.

For polar bears, there are two types of animal: other polar bears, and food.

I think Stephan would be the first to admit that it doesn’t take brains to draw comic strips.

Geico ads are usually entertaining, but Progressive really needs to get rid of that obnoxious woman in their ads.

Penguins and Polar Bears in the same place… It’s Deja Vu all over again (can you say “The Far Side?”)

Gee, if that piece of ice is really a circle, is it Arctic or Antarctic?

I like the GEICO’s gecko and the camel cracks me up, wha whoo. So does “Mayhem” especially when he chuckles.

These appear to be Adelies. So they would be in the south pole and chased by polar bears. Happy Feet.

For crying out loud, it’s a comic, not a documentary. Get over it. Sit back, relax, and laugh at the absurdity of it all.

What’s the difference between Arctic-dwelling polar bears and Antarctica-dwelling penguins? All the difference in the world!

In all the time since penguins were first discovered and brought to zoos, has no one EVER taken some of them to the Arctic?
