Never fear penguins, either that isn’t a polar bear or you aren’t penguins, there are no penguins at the North Pole and no bears at the South.

Ok…. let me try to understand…..Girl penguins wear pink bows.Boy penguins catch fish for them.

Polar bears wear Groucho glasses…and all of them, and many other animals, speak English….But it’s unscientific for them to all be in the same comic strip panel??!

If the polar bear visited Rat and Pig’s house, would you point out that polar bears don’t visit Northern California?Cos I swear, I live in the same city as Pastis, Pig and Rat….and no polar bear has ever knocked on my door. For that matter, I’ve never had zebras, crocs or lions as neighbors, either.Maybe Stephan should go to the library more?Sheesh.

I’m generally pretty permissive on the polar bear/penguin thing, but this gag would work with seals on either end of the deal — Polar bears eat seals, and Elephant seals eat penguins. And an elephant seal in Groucho glasses would be a riot.

Similar to the polar bear/penguin debate, “Finding Nemo” was ruined for me when Marlin and Dory were swallowed by the whale and ejected through the blowhole. Talking fish and birds I can accept in a movie, but unlike in humans, the digestive tract and the respiratory system do not meet at all in cetaceans. Whales do not eject water from the blowhole: what you see is mist created when warm air from the lungs meets colder air above the ocean. I tutor some kids on-line and it took a session to correct that misconception, thank you, Pixar.

Mr. Patsis has committed the all-too-common and inexcusable error of believing that penguins, from the southern hemisphere of the world, somehow come into contact with Polar Bears, which are found only in the Arctic and sub-Arctic.

Now, I’m not saying this is what Stephan is drawing, but please, to end the partisan bickering, look up auk and puffin. Let’s just say that is what he is drawing and set everything right with the comic world again. . . not everything black and white is a penguin. . . I wonder, if Stephan draws Zeeba with a carrot in his mouth, would you think him a penguin? Besides, one can clearly see that the ice is a perfect circle (well, close to perfect, but, hey it’s hard to draw a perfect circle, so, okay, fine – one can fuzzily see the ice as a perfect circle). As ice does not melt uniformly unless it was formed uniformly and all outside influences are also uniform in temperature, which never happens within a natural thermodynamic setting, one can logically assume that this is an exhibit at the zoo, and penguins are always next to the polar bears at the zoo. . . perhaps the door was left open – I mean, how else did the polar bear get the nose and eye brow glasses unless their was a concession stand nearby?

No, people, there are no penguins living near polar bears. However, there are penguin-like birds called auks that live near the north pole. http://www.allthesea.com/Sea-Bird-Auk.html
