Yeah, but only because sheā€™s heard this song-and-dance routine before: ā€œMy problem is boys. My other problem is boys. And boys, boys, and boys.ā€ But this time, Luann is actually seeking out help for something other than the opposite sex.

In the beginning of the strip, Lu would ā€œwalk right intoā€ a trap, with what she said, when Brad would ā€˜zingā€™ her, using what she said, which set it up so well, in the first placeā€¦ I guess since then, itā€™s expanded to include almost everyoneā€¦. I see that Greg is still favoring this gagā€¦.

I thought it was a volunteer kind of thing.^^It has been both at different timesā€¦. it was a paying job when Luann bought her car, then, her car disappeared and it was a volunteer jobā€¦ now Lu has a car again, soā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.

I thought Luann started out volunteering @the library with the kids, reading storiesto them in appropriate costume for storiesbeing read. Gunther did incredibly goodcostumes for her. Then came the day they hiredher. So entered the car into her life. Andnow we have cycled back, to the beginning.Does this also mean The Gunther is gone (from thelibrary, too?too?

From the two outfits we see her wearing today, we see that Quillā€™s Boomerang has been tossed and didnā€™t come back. Maybe this is a sign that she will spend the next few story arcs worrying not about boys but about money. Since the economy of Pitt seems to be centered on Weenie World, you would think that would be the default employer, but as others have expressed, we may see Luann driving TJā€™s lunch wagon instead. I truly hope not, because the less we see TJ in this strip, the better.

Not everyone who needs a job to help pay for future community college or whatever can afford to wait until summer. In Florida, there are thousands of high school kids bagging groceries at Publix and Winn-Dixie to earn money during the school year.

I was starting to like Bernice when she showed sympathy for the scared freshman. But now that sheā€™s showing her contempt for Luann, I realize I made a mistake in thinking that Bernice had a compassionate side. And Iā€™m sorry to see that Luann turned to her for help. Luann should have been able to turn to Miss Phelps. Itā€™s unlikely that a student counselor intern would be allowed, or able, to provide help in finding a job. Go back to helping freshmen find their lockers, Bernice.

Serious Q: Should you go to an adviser who has never herself/himself encountered the problem? Bernice seems never to have looked for a job. Is she qualified to advise Luann?*Serious Q Corollaries: Can you be a substance abuse counselor if you arenā€™t an ex-addict? A marriage counselor if youā€™ve never married? A correctional counselor if youā€™ve never done time?*Or are these all just ā€œhumanā€ problems that any competent counselor should be able to handle?

Exactly! And they do that sort of thing on the news, celebrity ā€œshowsā€ and sports media, all the time, the piecing together what they want others to see, or what it seems others would more readily perceiveā€¦ ā€“ And also, weā€™re reading words from two dimensional charactersā€¦ And Greg favors using this gag a lot, but it doesnā€™t mean that itā€™s only meant from sarcasm or elitismā€¦. itā€™s just Greg setting up the joke, just as he did since the early days (which are now running as ā€œLuann Againnā€, here on GoComics, where thereā€™s further reference for people to see this, as Lu has always made an opening for others to make a quick joke, only because she phrases things the way that she does. Itā€™s the way that Greg prefers, and as he usually states, his characters come from a part of his personalityā€¦). And as Ken and some others have mentioned, best friends and even siblings may ā€œripā€ on each other, but itā€™s only in certain moments, and you know theyā€™re just ā€œteasingā€, whether male or female. When it comes down to it, real friends and siblings may joke and tease, but always are there for the person, when it really matters!

Who says Berniceā€™s, ā€œI knowā€, has to be sarcastic?

Bernice is Luannā€™s best friend. She knows Luann better than anyone else. She is also more up to date on Luannā€™s problems than anyone else. So if Luann has a problem, would you not expect Bernice to be the very first person to know about it?

Is it not feasible that Bernice has already heard through the counselorā€™s grapevine that the library is cutting back on all part-time positions? She would immediately know the impact that would have on her closest friend, Luann.

So what better thing for Bernice to say when Luann comes to her with her problem than a gentle, ā€œI knowā€?

I didnā€™t think high school guidance counselors acted as employment agencies. Donā€™t students get after-school jobs by reading ā€œhelp wanted adsā€ on bulletin boards (physical or on-line), by searching Internet postings, or even by going into fast-food chains and other service outlets and asking whether theyā€™re hiring?

As for where Quill is, he will be graduating from high school in Oz shortly before Christmas on account of the academic calendar there. so he is either (1) spending all his time applying to colleges, or (2) writing term papers and studying like mad for finals in order to graduate, or (3) enjoying ā€œsenioritisā€ by drinking Fosterā€™s all night and passing out. But yeah, the ā€œdingoā€ hypothesis canā€™t be ruled out, either.
