I used to have a cat who would wait until my alarm went off, then she would jump up on the bed and snuggle in my arms for about 5 minutes. After that, she was done.
Mine sleeps next to me, keeping me amused with the nose-whistles, snoring, wheezing, oral eructations (burps), and occasional nocturnal flatulences (some are silent, some are loud, some are non-noxious, some are deadly, a [thankfully!] very few are silent and deadly enough to wake me from a sound sleep!). Not bad for an 18 year old cat who has been with me through the best and worst of times and always knows when I need comforting. The flats are a trade-off
I have dogs but they don’t sleep with me. I have shared the family room couch with a dog because I fell asleep watching TV and they climbed up on the couch and laid at my feet. I once had a collie that squeezed himself next to me near the edge of the couch. This same dog once squeezed himself through the opening between the back and seat of a metal chair.
Cuddles used to watch TV with me in bed (until I took a liking to expensive sheets). She would burrow under the covers and chew on the bottom sheet. Later she just watched on my favorite chair (as did Fitzroy) I will eventually reupholster the damage from that. Flickr is not letting me upload this morning.
We often turn the heat off or very low in winter (it does get cold in Florida) and pile on the covers. The cats love it. We’ve had many “three cat nights”. But even in the summer, two of them love to get up and get as much of their bodies in contact with ours as is catly possible. (Our Siamese is lying in my lap as I type this, purring her little apple head off.) I do feel sorry for those of you who hat “stupid cats”. You are missing a lot of great companionship.
Speak for yourself! I love Peekaboo. She reminds me of a cat I used to own. She was all white with 1 blue eye and 1 green eye. She was with me from 6 weeks of age till she died at age 20 years. Had she lived 3 more months she would have been 21. She, like Peekaboo, was a snuggle lover.
I am not a cat fan…..but did occasionally take care of my (then)SO’s cat when she made long trips. A pet sleeping on the bed is always comforting to me, and Julia liked to make a nest between my feet just like my dogs used to. No problem there.

They’re welcome until they bite my feet. They love to pounce on moving objects under the covers.

[Irony alert] What was fun when I was a teenager, was lying on my stomach and having the cat knead my back with his claws unsheathed!
