My youngest child’s name has 8 letters and her last name has 9. Fortunately her first name is the only one in the school, so that’s all I put. And yes, you have to put your name on everything or other kids will take their stuff (it has happened).
Actually around here the trend is not to label any supplies (other than, I guess notebooks) as the teacher collects all the pencils, etc. and keeps them and doles them out to whoever needs them, not to the kid who brought them. You have to buy the brand the teacher says as they all must match. Tissues, hand sanitizer, crayons, glue sticks… This is to cover kids who can’t or don’t bring anything and they want huge quantities. I don’t think I used 2 pencils a year, they need 2 boxes.

They have label makers that will print small enough for that.

N. Tokoname? That’s funny; he doesn’t look Japanese.

Lucky he doesn’t have my name, which has 9 letters in my first name, and 11 in my last name. Why can’t he use initials?

You can have the pencils, pens, markers, and note pads stamped with his name by a comercial source, like Kimbles.
