Eighteen: Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. (Hard rock, more hard rock, and redneck rock, just to mix things up a bit.)
Today: Beatles, SRV, Alvin Lee, and Motherâs Finest. (Pop rock, blues, blues rock, andâŠâŠâŠwell, MF defies categorization, but I still like to mix things up a bit.)
18: Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Steeley Dan, but also Chic Corea, Tower of Power, Maynard Ferguson, and for fun, The Empire Brass Quartet and the Canadian Brass.
35 years later: much the same but I like Blues Traveler, Crash Test Dummies, and some singer-songwriters like Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor.
I still like the music from when I was 18, but my current real favorites are things I discovered much later. I will admit that a lot of these discoveries are of music FROM when I was 18, but I didnât listen to it then.
I must not have gotten the musical âfusion geneâ. My musical tastes have changed and been added to many, many times over. There is even some music I liked at one point in time that now I ask myself, âwhat? ewwwâ.
18: Eagles, America, Paul McCartney and the Wings, Queen, Beatles (grew up listening to them as a kid). Started listening to Country music in the mid-80âs â donât know much about music since the mid-90âs â listen mostly to older stuff now, except for newer Christian contemporary, unless my daughter wants me to listen to something (sheâs 11 â likes Taylor Swift).
Ok â Classical, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Folk to newer stuff (Apocalyptica, Dreamside, Cruxshadows, Eisenfunk, almost anything else if it is done acapella) â I can listen to (and often enjoy) almost anything â as long as people really sing and NOT scream only. I like MUSIC.
The state of rock in â78 â â79 left me wanting, and I had also turned to Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, outlaw country, and such. After cutting my teeth on the likes of Black Sabbath and Humble Pie (both played at my first concert), that is quite a change. Linda was my favorite then, but I think I prefer Emmylou now. Better back-up.

Iâve had trouble enjoying new music since around the time that MTV cut back on videos. Possibly not coincidence.
