I feel the same way about NASCAR. If people really watched for the competition they could just as well go to a high school track meet. In most sports, except baseball, it is all about the impact.
College athletes have begun to file lawsuits against the NCAA over brain injuries, citing some of the same arguments professional football players used against the NFL. Along with the pending decision in the Ed O’Bannon case, the NCAA may be in line for devastating financial hits. I, for one, won’t shed a tear when it comes to fruition.
One of the many endearing qualities of his strip over the years is that it never pulls its punches. This is yet another example of that. I, for one, like stepping on toes when they need to be stepped on. I do like that quality in others as well. Judging from some of the comments already, a lot of orthopedic surgeons are going to be busy.
Considering the behavior of many college athletes, it’s a pity it isn’t a different organ that gets destroyed.
Why doesn’t football abolish the face mask? We can make a clear plastic shield that provides the same protection and no risk of anyone grabbing it. Cops and motorcyclists use them.
Thanks Bill, for having the courage to point out the truth about the disgraceful way the NCAA handles student injuries. I know it’s a bit like The Emperor’s New Clothes, but someone has to point it out ! Keep up the great work !

You wrote: “That’s why professional players are paid millions of dollars to play.”
Beg to differ. Pro athletes are paid millions to draw in huge audiences. Now the audiences may be there for the violence, that’s true.
