I have to make an appointment for my older daughter’s annual physical. This year it’s going to include a tetanus shot. She’s terrified of needles, and I can’t even give her the “oh, but it will only be a little pinch…not hurt at all” speech because tetanus shots H-U-R-T!!!
The thing is, bad as they are, inoculations are essential for children (and they can help adults, too). And what’s worse, getting the shots or risking getting the diseases?
Children are not pin cushions; they are walking, sneezing, drolling, touching petri dishes. But I like them anyway :)
In the hands of a good nurse, if you don’t look (I still can’t look) you probably won’t even know it happened until you are told you can roll down your sleeve.
yes, nothing like killing off the weaker germs so we have no defense against the stronger ones. (sometimes I think medicos never studied evolution, and then I think, they liked the course in increasing business more)
kea,That’s not how vaccines work. They use a killed or weakened virus. If done right they are harmless. The only alternative is to let millions of children die of preventable disease. Vaccines are a major (but not only reason) life expectancy has gone from 47 to 79 since 1900.
Back in elementary school, I used to get two shots of everything, the first one was under my nick-name, the second was under my real name. My mother didn’t catch on until the school-nurse-of-the-day touched base with my mother — they had known each other back in rural school. Nurse said to my mother, so what’s it like having twins… Woops, I was the only kid…
that funny what Linus said in the fourth panel what does that pediatrician think I am a dart board????….funny!!!!!!!…I hate getting the flu shot and giving blood at the lab pop ( God bless his soul) called it going to Dracula

I do remember having to get a measles shot — even evidence of having had the measles was not enough to get exemption.

He should be glad it’s not Lucy who’s giving him the shot. Haha

Yep, as I promised, we are now starting the 1967 Peanuts episodes.

Back then each vaccination had its own shot or series of shots. Now they combine a lot of different things into just a few.

Fortunately for me, I’m completely impervious to pain—except my own.

Wait until you have to donate blood, Linus, then you’ll be getting poked with a needle for a different reason.

Or a human pin cushion?
I hate shots too and yet I donate blood.

Ooh, how I hate needles! I used to bite my knuckles when I would get shots, kept me from screaming and freaking out the kids in the waiting room
