I’ve been doing my own laundry for some years now… mostly because mom had me designated to do the laundry (and a few other things). I bring my laundry home yea, but only to do it myself. I just save some money when I don’t use the pay machine ones where I’m renting ;o

I can think of six things a person may consider when picking a place…like what courses, entrance standards, how much travel I would have to do, whether it would be cheaper to room there or commute from home, etc….. but out of curiosity, apart from the one Frank gave her, I wonder what Luann’s other criteria would be?….Hmmmm…..

Hope Luann does stay close to home, I don’t mind if some characters move on, but, I wouldn’t want to see any of the Degroots (present OR future) leave the strip, want to see the wedding, want to watch Shannon’s ongoing transformation into a young lady, etc (OK, technically, Shannon isn’t a Degroot… but, I expect her to be one some time in the near future.)

Frank is trying to make “proximity” number 1 on Luann’s list, since “affordability” is number 1 on his own list. Put those two together, and you get Pitt CC. Frank, and the Evanses, are trying to provide adequate justification for that choice, so that people won’t conclude she’s going there just because she couldn’t get into anyplace else.

I wonder if the “laundry” comment (and, thus, her being near home) is the signal that she will, eventually, pick “Pitts Community College” (or the equivalent) so she can stay near town, etc.?

Still, I knew I wanted to get as far away from home as I could. I could only come home on breaks and summer (and one summer, I stayed in town). They laundry was the least of my worries, having done my own as a kid. It’s still, actually, my most favorite household chore.

Luann, Now that You’ve Decided on 5, No 6 choices of Colleges based, No Doubt, on the Number of “Cute” Guys that attend there, Have You Given ANY Thought as to HOW the Heck You’re Gonna PAY for Your Education??

Student Loans? Nah. You’d be too Busy Paying off those Credit Cards You Stupidly applied for the other Day.

After School Job? On Old Smiley’s “Rolaid Thunder” Truck?Which Just Happens to have Your (GAG) B/F working there?NOT a Chance. Besides Pretty Boy will Probably be Deported as soon as the Health Department Shuts the Place Down.

Well there’s ALWAYS Your Deep Pocketed Dear Old Dad. Remember: He Didn’t Have to Put Brad through College! So there Should be a TON of Dough SAVED Up for the Kid’s College Education, Right?

    RIGHT?

… mauve must be today’s color of contemplation …..I had to look back to see what color mauve was – still didn’t know, so went to wickipedia:“Mauve is more grey and more blue than a pale tint of magenta would be. Many pale wildflowers called “blue” are actually mauve. Mauve is also sometimes described as pale violet.".Looks like it can be a variety of color tints/shades. Guess I’ll stick with the ones I learned in school – red, yellow, blue, orange, green & purple.

Rosa, Delta, and Bernice are the sorts of students who will be going to Stanford, Berkeley, or some eastern colleges. Gunther could, but he needs to stay at home. Maybe Quill will have been deported by this time next year. Tiffany may just get a job in Los Angeles, trying to break into acting. Aaron Hill and mini-Elvis will share a dorm room at the University of Brigadoon.

Puce is a reddish sort of purple-brown…..Interestingly, it came from a word meaning “flea” …. – A reference for it can be made in the original “Monsters, Incorporated”, where Sulley discovers for the first time, looking down at different colored folders: “Ohhh…. so that’s Puce!” (But the color never gets shown on the screen)….

Fun facts on puce from Wikipedia: = In the animated comedy television series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show (1959–1964), Bullwinkle refers to his high school’s colors as pomegranate and puce. (So, basically, almost the same color twice!) – In an episode of the 1960s American TV show, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., the protagonist, superspy Napoleon Solo, enters a fashionable women’s clothing store while chasing an enemy agent. The store clerk, a woman, asks “Can I help you with anything, Sir?” He says “I’d like to see something in … puce.” She went off to check and Solo continued on. (Clever tactic, as she must have been in there looking for a long time!…

Uh, huh. Now here’s an interesting statement that might be familiar to you:

    -

35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and his means fail with thee; then thou shalt uphold him: as a stranger and a settler shall he live with thee. . 36 Take thou no interest of him or increase; but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.

. 37 Thou shalt not give him thy money upon interest, nor give him thy victuals for increase.

    -

The Book of Leviticus 25:35 – 37. In other words, it’s ok to lend money to help someone regain his independence, but you aren’t supposed to charge interest….

The consideration of whether a college will pump up your resume as ALWAYS important. But for many of us, community colleges and state schools were the only affordable alternatives. The big diff, back in the day, was that many people just couldn’t afford to go,or ended up in Vietnam, or their income was needed by their family right after high school. So a college degree wasn’t quite as common and made you more desirable to an employer. Even if it was a degree from a community college or state school.
