Frazz by Jef Mallett for November 28, 2013
Transcript:
Miss Plainwell: Once again, people will get up at 4 AM on their day off to get jostled, trampled and crawled over. Frazz: Haha! It's like triathlon season! Miss Plainwell: Although now stores are opening tonight so people can get roughed up a day sooner. Frazz: Like a bike race expo! Miss Plainwell: I'm still recovering from the rush city marathon number pick-up.

Traditions emerge all the time. I just hope the empty stores convince them to “pull-the-plug” on this one.
ONE day a year for Family isn’t too much to ask, is it?

I am boycotting all retail stores that open on Thanksgiving for the holidays! I hope everyone else does too!

some businesses say that their employees love to work on thanksgiving, especially their front line employees. however, not their execs and especially not their senior management.

I’ve never shopped on Thanksgiving – even if I forgot something for the dinner.

I think it’s fine for the stores to all be open for business…as long as they let their employees stay home.

Staying home with my family, shopping can be done any time. Decided not to patronize retail stores for Christmas that were open on Thanksgiving. Black Friday is fine but shopping for Christmas on Thanksgiving Day is just ridiculous.

I hope everyone boycotts Wal-Mart. My poor daughter is working her butt off yesterday, today and tomorrow. And they are 14 -20 hr days.

From reading comments, a lot of people don’t like other people making their choice to shop on those days. What’s next, stores being closed on Sundays a la “Blue Laws”?

I went by the ATM yesterday afternoon and it was out of cash. I checked inside and both the counter and inside ATM were crowded. I decided I didn’t need any extra mad money and went home. Happy Thanksgiving everyone, be safe…

Agreed. A pizza hut manager was recently fired for deciding not to open on Thanksgiving since he had promised his employees they could have the day off. Pizza hut lost my business forever.

The problem is that the employees don’t get to decide their own schedules. Their time with family must be postponed.

The only reason I can imagine anyone wanting to work on Thanksgiving is that they WANT to keep their job.
