Mature, eh?….. – If they’re gonna play that game, T-Farr sounds a lot better!….

Hmmm… Greg must have been in a hurry the night he did this one; not up to his usual standards (In other words, ok, but, not up to his usual excellence).

I love Delta’s hat, suits her!

Anyone else notice how Bernice can eat huge gobs of food, and yet stay rail-thin? Is she purging??
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
This is definitely a case for the song “Rip Her To Shreds” by Blondie….

Tiffany walks in, looking better than all three of them put together, and taking no notice of them at all. Their response? Gratuitous insults, led by the Designated Heroine. In other words, exactly what the true fans of this strip want.

The U nited G irls’ L eague of Y oung , I ntellegent, A spiring M odels… “When you think of the next cover girl, think of how it may have come from us!”….– ’Playgrounds Under Safe Handling ’ Initiative… “Advocates of proper playground manners… The first name in playground safety!”… – Meaty-Ochre BBQ Sauce…. “The taste that 1/25 of Americans love!”… – and by…’Ponch’ Brand CHiPs…. “Good for shoulders , great with dips!”..

…LOL – Second new name possibly…You know what? You remind me of the old joke about an election in North Korea. As the votes were being counted, one “no” vote was discovered. “This proves that we are a democracy,” said Kim Il Sung, “where all dissenting opinion is allowed.” Then a second “no” vote was discovered. “The scoundrel,” Kim exclaimed, enraged. “He has dared to vote twice. His vote is cancelled!”Obviously, in your universe, there can’t be more than one dissenter. This is why I quit reading this strip some time ago, and only returned after reading comments on another (and very well known comic satire) website. I believe seismic 2 and I are acquainted there. It must be nice to live in a world where everyone but one person agrees with you.

The Tiffster will never win “Miss Congeniality,” but the gang is pretty hard on her: she’s done nothing overtly offensive today. Yes, there may be a bit of a double standard in play here.

I’m 77 years old, and my vocabulary keeps growing, with newly coined words. I wonder how my great grand children can learn it all.

How long has it been since Luann has worn her Boomerang necklace ?
Mikeyj almost 11 years ago
I also noticed that no one is ever allowed to sit on our side of the table in Pitts.^^You’ll see the same thing on TV & live theatre also, it makes it easier to follow the conversation as to who, is saying what.

WHAT Are YOU (Gag) Eating, Bernice? An old “Face Towel”???
Chris Kenworthy almost 11 years ago
I’ve never heard ‘Jennan’ before. Most of the really silly nicknames are not for one person, but the couple names, like Brangelina and TomKat.

Squoop almost 11 years ago
Actually, Gunther Berger would be Guber.
JanLC almost 11 years ago
Considering “JenAn”, “J-Lo” and “ScarJo” all use the FIRST syllables of each name, wouldn’t Luann be “LuDe” instead of “Loot”, and Bernice “BeHar” or “BerHar” instead of “Berper”?
ABADABA almost 11 years ago
Can’t imagin Luan using such a term for anyone
LittleIggy almost 11 years ago
RosAra is the only one they got right. Luann DeGroot should be LuDe. Delta James should be DelJam…
watmiwori almost 11 years ago
I didn’t know Bernice was Bavarian!
sandi54729 almost 11 years ago
Only Rosa’s name is right, you mash up the FIRST letters of BOTH names… not First from First name and Last from Last name… Luann would be LuDe
Mikeyj almost 11 years ago
If and when ReallyBad comes on and remarks on how what Luann said was unwarranted, I’ll have to agree with him this time^^Same here… well, they all have memories of the girl
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
@Squoop
Actually, Gunther Berger would be Guber.
I don’t think that would work because of the placement of the B.^It actually would, if you think about it, (and reference my response to Squoop just above)… Squoop used the letters that are “exactly at the beginning” in both his first and last names….

Tiffany is a snothead? But, Luann, your song wasn’t called “She’s a Snot”, now was it?
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
She and Luann have been enemies since the beginning.^It has been mentioned in the past strips that they were friends in the beginning (third grade)….it’s just that when we caught up to them when “Luann” the strip was introduced, they were already well past that grade…

Actually, come to think of it, there are some Geographical names that we use everyday that are also portmanteaus… I have to go and think about it a bit, but I know that they are out there, and we all have ran across them at one time or another…
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
here are some other “ordinary, everyday” words that we use all the time that are really portmanteaus, like “Motel” ("motor hotel)….
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
here are some geographical portmanteaus, like “Texarkanna, Tx./Ark.”….
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
There’s also Palmolive, Wikipedia (wiki= editable web app, pedia= encyclopedia), Microsoft (microcomputer/software), Verizon (Veritas=true/Hori=horizon), Pinterest, Travelocity, Harvey Cedars (Harvest/Cedars), Mexicali (Mexico/California), Delmarva (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia), spork (spoon/fork), Peacharine (peach/tangerine), Frappuccino (Frappe/Cappuccino), alphanumeric, infomercial, infotainment, Labradoodle, Liger, and more!… – here is a list for portmanteaus for several kinds of things, including computer terms we use everyday….
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Another good one!…

The first one that really caught on in the newspapers, I believe, was American track star Florence Griffith Joiner, which fit the headlines as Flo-Jo.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Yeah…. I’d better not forget that one… ha ha!!!!1
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Actually, we do sing the blues here, in “the Blue”….not the “going through the blues” blues, but the Mrs. and I are rather fond of blue… it’s deep (the ocean) and wide and full of hope (the sky)….. – Of course, there are some great blues/rock numbers and groups that make excellent use of the music blues that we also do enjoy….- That, and SeaJam is a portmanteau of the names of the Mrs. and I (our “real life” names outside of here), that I use for writing projects and such…
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Actually, scratch the “New Mexico” part — they aren’t neighboring states.^You might want to consider “scratching your scratch”… there are tons of places that are portmanteaus of other places that aren’t exactly next to each other… some are in the lists that I linked to, up there….
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Forgot to add that you can see the “SeaJam” right there, in my avatar, which is why Brd gave me a towel to wipe the egg off of my face, for missing the one thing that was right under my nose, there…. glad there were no snakes…

I imagine a class at Pitt High School goes something like this: “The Delmarva peninsula (between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean) is so named because it is divided into parts belonging to Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Now that the geography lesson is out of the way, let’s say nasty things about Tiffany!”
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Personally, I think that despite the “generalization” of things being one-sided here on “Luann” and on GoComics, that there really is a wide range of thoughts and expressions here and on GC…. – I appreciate the comments of some of our fellow “commenting colleagues” who are also on Comics Curmudgeon, and personally find C.C. to be hilarious, but I have noticed as I had read C.C., that there are quite a few “snark-oriented” digs swimming around a lot there, sometimes seeming to be “for the sake of snarking” as a past-time… so while I enjoy the comments there, I would think that it’s sort of slanted, a bit, in the sense of not many people post on there who don’t already feel similarly… though I think that they do make excellent points there…. - ArcaMax (which also has some of our fellow colleagues on there), seems to be a bit… “bland”… in the sense that some of the things that some of us do on here, would be looked upon as “too zany” or something like that… the commenters there can be witty, but rarely “colorful” like it is, here… – So, in a nutshell, I like being here , because despite the “generalization” that people’s comments are “either too much leaning this way or that way”, if people pay enough attention and read everyone’s posts, there are more varieties of styles of expression and opinion than many would like to believe…. and there’s more room for “original, creative thought and expression”…..

Do 17-year-olds actually call one another “snothead”? Luann seems to be taking on the characteristics of the kids at Lincoln Elementary.
JayBluE almost 11 years ago
Yes, I did miss it… – Mostly because although I like Duke, C-Jam for some reason gets “stuck in the back folder of my file drawer”…not out of malice, mind you…. and there’s also the alternate title: “Duke’s Place”…..– That, and the fact that I was so busy contemplating my own personal connection to one of today’s “themes”, that I was more focused on that… – And then, there’s the matter of ducking, with all of the “pies” flying, Lol!….

Gerber!? Isn’t that a brand of baby food and baby insurance? I have so many names my friends call me, I can’t keep track of them all.

It’s getting hard to tell who the spoiled, mean girl is at this point. If this was the first time I ever read “Luann” my guess would be Luann.
hankgillette almost 11 years ago
Twenty years from now, Luann will still be talking about this: “Remember when I called Tiffany ‘Snothead’? Boy, I really got her, even though she didn’t hear me and never cared what I said anyway. Can’t believe that she’s an actress in Hollywood now. Whoops! Got to go! My shift at Starbucks starts in 20 minutes!”
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace almost 11 years ago
“Well, then technically Luann could murder Tiffany on Monday and the whole class could carry her out of the room cheering. His gig, his choices, says you.”-Nah, jealous talk is forgiven, cold-blooded murder is frowned on. Plus, it would be out of character.

This is an example of why my daughter had more guy friends. She hated the cattiness of the other girls. Guys might argue or fight, but then it’s over. Not so with females, they never forget a slight.
Willow Mt Lyon almost 11 years ago
Okay. So Tiffany is of little significance or value to everyone except for her daddy. Years ago we saw Tiffany show up at a nice restaurant with a guy who called her Tif. I don’t recall seeing him since. She didn’t show up at the New Years Eve dance. What does Tiffany do on weekends anymore? Has she wondered why she hasn’t been seen with a boy for ages?
Willow Mt Lyon almost 11 years ago
In a year those girls won’t be having this silly conversation I hope.
hankgillette almost 11 years ago
What’s interesting is that even with Greg’s biases, for the past week Tiffany has come across as the more sympathetic character.
Caldonia almost 11 years ago
Really, Evans actually figures the typical Luann fan would even know who ScarJo is? They all live in the past when Luann was a likable girl—chances are slim they would recognize a popular actor of this century.

I was going to say that Tiff is really leaning towards her “goth girl” (whose name I can’t remember!) friend’s style…I’m a bit surprised as Tiff usually has a different style of clothing… ;)

We all need a little poetry:.She Walks in BeautyBy Lord Byron .She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
.One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress, Or softly lightens o’er her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
.And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent!

Don’t be hating just because Tiffany’s sexy and she knows it. Step up your own games, girls!
