Congrats Mr. Hinds (wish could have done the same for Mr. Millar RIP). That’s hideous? I still laugh thinking about the strip a few years ago with that photo he had when he recalled to his ex-girlfriend how he looked during his football playing days! Your consistent art quality is one of the reasons I’ve remained a fan all these years. Looking forward to the announcement tomorrow(?)!
Mr. Hinds, let me add my congratulations and wishes for continued success for one of my favorite strips. I have been a fan of yours and the late Jeff Miller almost since Tank first fumbled his way into our hearts. Thank you for all the laughs and perceptive sports satire. May you prosper for many more years !
I remember that, when the comic started, one of our Nashville television stations had just hired John Tesh as a news reader. He was good at the job, but we all thought the Tank character looked a lot like him.
Somewhere in my files, I’ve still got an old Sunday strip from, oh, 1975 or so…the punchline was “What have they done with Dick Nixon and who’s this Gerald Ford?”
I remember when this strip started, and I have the “Tank McNamara Chronicles” published 1978—price, $7.95. TM is still one of the funniest and best-drawn strips around. I’m sorry Jeff Millar isn’t here to celebrate, so take a bow for two, Bill Hinds.
Has it really been 40 years? Jeez (or “cheese”), time really does slip away. Congrats on keeping this strip RELEVANT, Bill. And posthumous kudos to Jeff, too.
It’s a shame that this comic strip is no longer in any NYC newspapers. The only way I can read this on the internet. Happy 40 & 40 more! My pick for Sports Jerk of the Year is Dennis Rodman.
Congrats on 40 years. I still have the very first book publishing the original strips. I still read it every now and then. Way to go folks. Here’s to 40 more years of relevant jock humor!
Congrats on the last 40 years. I admit, I’ve probably only read it on and off for the last 20, but I still think it is a funny now as it was then. Keep up the good work. And Rodman still gets my vote for Sports Jerk of the Year.
I’ve been reading Tank for most of those 40 years (and I have the “Chronicles” and another paperback collection, also, “God Intended Blond Boys To Be Quarterbacks”), and I congratulate Mr. Hinds for the achievement, and wish Mr. Millar were here to receive our thanks, as well.
I changed my mind during the process, Rodman doesn’t deserve the recognition, that jerk would probably consider it an honor (and I guess it is). I went for A-Rod.
I miss the norts spews. I don’t know why this strip isn’t more widely distributed. It’s been one of the consistently funniest strips forever, regardless of whether you’re a sports fan (forts span?) or not.

I have that first book. Jeff and Bill have been awesome in the last 40 years. I only wish Jeff would have made it to see this milestone.

I thought he was Mank Tacknamara in the norts spews days. He also had a habit of pouncing bodily on anything that was dropped.
