Peter: You're writing Valentine's cards to YOURSELF?!? Paige: i'm sick of basing my self-esteem on what other people do or don't do. Every February it's the same thing: If I don't get Valentine's cards from certain boys, I totally feel like an undesired loser. Why do I let them have this sort of power over me?! Why should my happiness rely on the actions of others?! It's pathetic! From now on, my self-worth is coming from ME. From now on, I'm writing MYSELF the Valentine's messages I deserve. Peter: "Paige, you are awesome! Love, Billy H." "Paige, you are special! Love, Mikey P." "Paige, you are beautiful! Love, Greggy E." I agree with the "special" one. Paige: Was that the doorbell? I'm surprising myself with flowers from a a super hunky secret admirer.

Our school used to have carnations that a kid could buy and have âshippedâ to their Valentine in their class, with a card. A friend of mine told me that she saw my âcrushâ writing a card out to âKarenâ. I was so happy! That is, until I found out that it was to a different âKarenâ. That is the closest I ever got to receiving a Valentine in school. (The first Valentine that I ever received that wasnât from my parents was from my husband.)

Valentineâs Day should be abolished.Like other holidays (for the lack of a better word), itâs all about money and sales.It puts tremendous pressure on spouses, and brings a lot of pain for lonely singles.

When I was in high school, my other brother did exactly that. Anyone that showed interest was âwarned offâ. I never knew until one brave soul thumbed his nose at my brother, told me what was going on & continued to ask me out.

The boysâ first names and last initials are based on fellow cartoonists. Billy H. is either Bill Hinds or Bill Holbrook, Mikey P. is Mike Peters, and Greggy E. is Greg Evans.

One of the best things that happened in my relationship with my SO is when we decided to stop making a big deal out of valentines day and just enjoy a simple night at home together. My SO is good to me year round . . I have no need of grand gestures one day of of 365.
