Alex: Look at them, Mia-- little angels now that you're here! I dunno, I'm probably taking it too personally. I'm sure they appreciate me. What do you say, guys? How would you rate me as a mom? Baby 1: 6! Baby 2: 5! Alex: Ha! They look like they're holding up signs! Mia: Which say 10!

Maybe they’re having premonitions of the guilt trips she’s going to lay on them later in life.

The twins seem to like Leo just fine. Alex’s approach to parenting is more antagonistic. It’s in the bloodlines. She hates her mother, who hates her mother, and they all have pretty good reasons.

Well, taken together, Alex is an “11”

-You also have to wonder why her kids seem to dislike her so much-If the kids behaved well for her and seemed to like her as much as they like their Dad, this whole story line would be impossible. Besides, isn’t it a basic tenant of western thinking that a Mom is always supposed to stay at home and take care of kids, and not have a job? Since Alex is working outside the home, she is therefore by western standards a ‘neglectful’ mother.

The primary caretaker always gets blamed the most. It’s easy to be the cool one when you’re the dad or the babysitter who can go home at night and not have crying kids there.

She has kids and then immediately hires a nanny to parent them so she can pursue a career, then treats them like they are an intrusion into her life? Yeah, that’s neglectful.

I am sorry, but I have seen some ugly kids, and the parents knew it also. They still loved them, but they knew.

Kids, don’t mess with the one who has the food supply.

Forget about appreciation — Moms never get any.
I took in a litter of “butt-ugly” feral kittens — who blossomed into the most adorable cats ever — I had to do battle just to keep a couple of them. I really thought nobody would ever want them and people were knocking on my door.
