Frazz by Jef Mallett for March 30, 2014

Caulfield: People say sports are like life. Really? If that's what you want, there should be a clock but it won't matter. The game could end any second, for any reason. Poof! You did what you did. You're done. Frazz: Brilliant. If a bit morbid. Caulfield: Mostly I'm in favor of anything that makes some of those basketball games shorter.

All basketball games only get interesting in the last ten minutes if they get interesting at all…All basket ball games should start with ten minutes left on the clock with the score 88 to 89, Who’s ahead determined by a flip of a coin. Then just play it out…It would speed things up a lot….

I have football because of this.I DVR CBS shows on Sunday night and the FB games are always running around 20-45 minutes late..If there’s 2 minutes on the clock, that means at least 20 minutes of air time.

Basketball is an example of relativity warping space and time. Perhaps we will yet find a practical use for it, such as starships that get around the speed-of-light limit by having a continuous last-minute-of-the-finals game going in the engine room…

How far into May does this March Madness last, anyways?Paging through NetFlix and their smash-em-ups is just as boring as hunting through the DirecTV menu.

At least there’s movement in basketball. Football is deadly dull, and almost totally stationary.

Once, leaving work, I turned on the radio and a BB game was on. There were only two minutes left, so I left it on. When I got home, it was still going. Zzzzzz. The NBA needs a couple of rules changes: (1) Raise the basket by a foot, so it’s as far overhead as it was when the game was invented. (2) Have graduated penalties. A foul in the last 5 minutes costs 3 free throws instead of 1 or 2. In the last 3 minutes, it costs 4 free throws. In the last minute, it costs 5, and you can have your best shooter do it instead of the guy who was fouled.

I have the cure for the problem that Caulfield mentioned. “How do you make basketball games shorter?” So, anyone wanting to do that, listen up. The cure to the problem is………..the off button! Or, for another method, the ‘channel changer’ button! I haven’t watched 2 minutes of BB in my entire life. That’s 76 years of NO BASKETBALL on my TV.
