Whether it’s in Moscow, Russia or Moscow, Idaho, do they only hire same-gender twins to be servers?

That restaurant would get sued in the US for employment discrimination.

An elephant’s water consumption just goes to show that size matters, regardless of the form of measurement. Although we like gallons, inches, etc., just about all of scientific and mechanical America can’t get along without metric tools and measurements. The academic community is putting increasing emphasis on metric measurement, simply because it makes more sense. That doesn’t mean anything will change.

I don’t like it, either — it’s nonsense to measure in cups, pints, quarts, gallons. But it’s what I grew up with, so I’m familiar with it. I wish this country had changed to litres before I was born — then I would be familiar, and comfortable with it. I’s far superior. Oh, well. People in hell want ice water…. (we can’t always have what we want.)

As I recall, the metric system was born in France to end the confusion caused by dozens of local standards within the country. For length, they decided to use a natural standard like distrance from North Pole to (Equator or Paris?) But everything was based on division/multi by 10.Here, in the US, we are waiting for someone to come up with the next “Bright Idea” and get on board with it!(Why North Pole – no one had been there yet!)Surely, there is a better standard to use.

For that matter, why use a base of 10? Base 8 would be much easier to work with as it’s a simple division of twos.Computer design would have been much simpler with a base of 8. To make a circuit that divides by 10, it has to be capable of counting to 16 and then be degraded.Waste of components.

Let’s see – how do we convert kilometers/hr to miles/hrand then to furlongs per fortnight? And what happened to cubits?

If we had gone metric 40 years ago like the government (and many others) wanted, then only us old folks would even remember miles and feet. (We would still have yards in football).

When I was a kid, we had pet skunks. They are good pets with the exception of wanting to dig holes into a mattress.
