Janis: That was Gene!
Arlo: Is anything wrong?
Janis: Well, he said Gus is talking seriously about selling the restaurant!
Arlo: You know what this means, don't you?
Arlo: You and I are going to have something new to talk about for weeks!

Happy Birthday, Clark and ed! My birthday was last Tuesday (1935), and I share it with Charles Lindbergh, Betty Friedan, Rosa Parks, Alice Cooper, and Dan Quayle (among others).

So, poll time…..+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++1. Do you think that JJ is attempting with this story arc to bring Arlo, Janis, Gene, MaryLou, Meg “Squirt”, & Gus into more day-to-day interaction by having perhaps Arlo and Janis venture into buying Gus’s place and moving? (My opinion is that it is an interesting idea, but I do not think JJ is doing that (probably only about a 10% chance)).+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++2. Do you think that Arlo’s statement is simply a reference to the comments here from some folks, and is Arlo breaking the 4th wall? (I’d say yes, probably a 95% chance. I am not sure I want JJ to acknowledge the commenters idea that Arlo & Janis in their traditional pattern of late are not as “dynamic” as other aspects of the strip. I tend to REALLY like and enjoy the way JJ has been portraying Arlo & Janis’s (and Luddies) interactions.)+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++3. What other interpretations do you see? (Me, I do not see other potential ideas yet, but hope others do.)

I came here to say that we, the readers, are just being set up to scream, “NO”. I’m a bit late to be the first with that thought, so , Pipe, my vote is definitely 2

Clark Kent: Almost anyone can find a couple of celebrities with their birthdays. I only find two for April 26: Audubon and Carol Burnett. The latter is my evidence against astrology. We were born 1° of longitude, 3° latitude, and a few hours apart, yet I see no similarities than any two random individuals.

I’m always late posting, but I’m pretty sure JJ is referring to the fact that there is not that much “new” stuff to talk about in the day by day living. The “goings ons” with kids provide something new to talk about.

I like stories that continue for a week or more at a time! Not just this strip, but other ones too…

I don’t think so. Every now and then there’s a story line about him in the office. Jimmy?
