But if the young couple are 49% owners, they will have an excellent return on the sale of the place and prime, waterfront real estate

I’m not sure A&J know about the 49% ownership. Their daughter-in-law sure didn’t. And, once again, we don’t know what Gus is planning. He has land AND he has the restaurant, he is talking of selling, but what is he selling? The land, some land, his SHARE of the restaurant? Janis is freaking out because of the rumor, with no knowledge.

If jumping to conclusions were an Olympic event, there would be no males in the medals.

This is a great storyline..Can’t wait when Alro discovers his boat will be an issue with the charge to dock it, or whatever it is called.

It sounds to me like Gus will set the kids up so that they can work the farm. They wanted to do organic farming, if I recall correctly. Why won’t Arlo & Janis simply call Gus & ask about his decision?

Maybe she can shoot her mouth off to Gus and mess up the whole deal.

I still think this has the feel of a scenario whereby A&J will be moving there to live on the boat, potentially buy into the restaurant, or some sort of similar path. I think JJ is leading us to a rather “new” form of the comic A&J where all the major players are together in one locale again.

WHile I enjoy having the “kids” back in the strip, how long can we play out A&J being clueless and pissy?

Just remember folks, its a comic. I can assure you that it will turn out for the good of all concerned. And if it doesn’t, then we will have two more poor schmucks, just like the rest of us, who work hard and try to survive in the world and support those too lazy too work. But at least their suffering isn’t “real”

Well let’s see – according to Varnes, Janice is simply channeling Gracie Allen – based on the idea that since Gracie Allen played dumb to George Burn’s straight man, she must have been dumb and we have jeffiekins putting forth the idea that only women every jump to conclusions (If jumping to conclusions were an Olympic event, there would be no males in the medals.)

This current storyline sure has brought out the sexism in the crowd.

DOSQueen: I am old enough t remember Gracie Allen. You missed the whole story. First, the routines were written by George. Originally he was the comic and she was the talking woman (the technical term for a female straight man), but she was getting more laughs with the straight lines than he did with the punch line. So they switched roles and went on to success. .Second, she did not play dumb. Her initial statement would seem dumb, but she always made it come out perfectly logical – with laughs along the way. No one has done that formula more successfully.

“He is facing a lifetime of low pay and drudgery in a tough industry.” That could be said about any industry these days: food service, engineering, medicine (if it were priced according to market forces, few doctors would earn scale), agriculture, computer programming, cartooning, etc.

DOS, Back in olden times, the only person who could speak the truth in front of the King was the Jester…or Joker….Gracie’s wisdom showed a different way of looking at things…..It was needed then, and it’s needed now….Good job, Gracie….

Penny Robinson Fan Club: Two-liners don’t count. They appeared in the middle of a sketch just to confuse things. It all resolved in the end.

At his age— what is Gene, about 24?— he’s hardly being forced into a “lifetime” of anything. He could easily change careers at that age, regardless of his college major. I worked low-paying job in customer service for about 7 years after graduating, then took night classes in IT for a couple years and changed careers— and started making a good living. Not saying it’s “easy”, but such a move probably would be easier than the workload Gene and Mary Lou have been portrayed as having lately.
