Man. All Armstrong did was dope up to win some competitions. He’s a bigger jerk than serial rapist Mike Tyson? Bigger than Dennis Rodman, who’s cozying up to a murderous dictator?
Lance Armstrong: The guy who cheated during a time when everybody else was also cheating. (See: Parity). And still kicked their asses 7 times in a row, and came up with a podium finish for an eighth.
Sorry, I can’t get riled on this one. NOBODY was riding honestly back then (at least nobody who was finishing the Tour in double figures). And yeah, cycling looked bad. Forget that, it looked terrible.
It’s easier just to blame Lance.
Lance Armstrong. Seven times Tour de France winner. And there’s no way you can change that.
Lance over OJ or Tyson or Bonds?Well, time does blur memory AND people do get a chance to rehab their image through contrition (Tyson). Lance was more aggressive to destroy anyone who dared to say he wasn’t perfect than the others and only admitted when blocked from any form of competition. But is that more than OJ murder? hard because he’s far from the only sports figure in the last 40 years to kill someone – why him vs the others?. And Tyson’s in the same boat with rape and abuse.
Coincidentally, I’ve been reading Michael J. Fox’s book, “Always Looking Up”, published 2009. He raved about how Lance Armstrong was “one of the finest men I ever met.” Whoops!
Lance never raised my ire since the entire sport was corrupt from the officials to the riders as well as the fans who knew that it was corrupt and still supported it. The “whistleblowers” that I noticed were all cheaters that fell behind and THEN found religion.
Lance. Good choice. After a gusty beating of cancer, he hoodwinked a corrupt sport AND set up a self-serving foundation that seems to have done little for cancer. It’s the sheer sanctimoniousness that won him this uncoveted title.

Lance did win 7 times, but he insisted on a stack of bibles that he was clean. Time and again.

Still think Rodman, Rose, and Armstrong are pikers next to Tonya Harding.

Rose bet on baseball. Armstrong bet no one would be able to pin doping scandals on him. Rodman… well, was just Rodman.
I’d still give it to Rose, though.

I thought there was a ‘no murderers’ policy for the Sports Jerk, so OJ wouldn’t be eligible.

Should have been Steinbrenner. He had the biggest long term negative effect on all professional sports — which, of course, also filters down.

Lance Armstrong wasn’t “big” enough for the 40 years title. An ordinary SJOTY, but not this one.
