My son’s friend wanted to see who could grow his hair longest without parental objection. My son explained he would win because we didn’t care. When he mentioned it ro me, I agreed and explained it would all fall out soon enough so he might as well enjoy what he had. The other kid’s mother ordered the cut that night. My son’s girlfriend ordered his cut a few days later. It seems the women of the world are the fascists, based on hair cutting. (Or don’t like the competitionm)
I like today’s culture regarding hair. Long, buzz, none at all, dyed, whatever, do not correlate with a political posture, and people have to be learned for who they are according to how they are, not by an external signifier.
The hair of young people doesn’t bother me. It’s the old dudes with comb overs and pony tails on a mostly bald head that to me seem foolish. I’m mostly bald and keep my hair short.
@packratjohnI could, too, but don’t see that it would add to the discussion. I’ll just state for the record that I was there in the 60s and I do remember it.“They’ll be ga-ga at the go-go when they see me in my toga…”
DT Pi used to often post lyrics and it did seem to be a wonderful addition to the discussion, as I recall. If you don’t enjoy any particular post, you can always feel free to skip it.
I know a guy whose mom grew-up in German occupied Denmark. When he joined the service and get his hair cut short, his mother hated it. “You look like a German” she said.
Remember there are only three types of Socialism: Communism (world view), Nationalism (nation view), and Fascism (federal view). What they have in common is their end results: re-education and permanent purges. [And people wonder why the Ukraine does not like Russia. 30 million died from 1927-1929 by Stalin’s orders (makes Hitler look tame).] I don’t see a house rule rising to any of these. Then again, when Mark does come back with the hair clippings and puts them his dad’s lap that is freedom of speech and funny. If I were his father I would sale the clippings.
I arrived home just before going to Vietnam. My father told me the minute I arrived that if I was going to stay there I was going to get a haircut. (I was already in the military, how long could it have been?) My answer was to start my motorcycle. Before I got it turned around my mother had made him back down.

I’m surprised no one has reprinted the words from the song Hair from the musical Hair yet. What a great song and show that was from that time.

Did anyone else notice how a self-righteous Mark sucked in his gut and puffed out his chest as he marched off? (Probably to get a haircut?)
