I’m sorry, but I genuinely don’t understand why you’re so upset. How has the re-running of strips that you enjoy spoiled them for you? I’m not trying to be dismissive of your feelings, but I really don’t get it.(What are TL:DR types?)

I never got to see these. I was about 12 when the strip began, and in a very conservative area, so I first saw the strip when I went to college. It’s interesting to see the beginning, since I always had the feeling of coming late to the party.

I was born in 1970, so all of these are new to me. I am going to buy the books because I have seen that I would have loved them if I was old enough. I first encountered Doonesbury when I was 18.

Yes, much death and destruction in Iraq following our removal of their dictator and not forcing a stable, nonsecular government upon them or just getting out.This followed their invasion of and attack on surrounding nations and refusal to comply with ceasefire agreement and acting as if they were STILL developing nuclear, chemical and biological weapons..Hard on the local minorities and impossible for us to stop once we removed the dictator who would have killed all family members of any who gave him grief.

George should know better than to try to rationalize with two happy drunks.

By the way, your characterization of Robert Heinlein and Keith Laumer as right-wingers is off. Both wanted personal liberty, both distrusted the powers pushing government, both knew all too well the dangers of bureaucratic mindset and of diplomatic ignorance.Both accepted the fact that war is sometimes needed unless we want to let conqurers kill us and our loved ones.Both knew the dangers of politicians using military as personal or partisan tools.Both believed we had an obligation to not send our people lightly to their deaths or to abandon them when they were no longer convenient..It is a good idea to read what they actually wrote before putting them in some standard box built out of personal prejudices.
