Ok, so maybe the reason for putting up the satellite had nothing to do with finding local mutants. Endtown is safe for now, and completely unaware of that.
Nailed it.Endtowners being on foot, they havenāt been able to travel far enough to find anything outside the waste.Or the ones that doā¦Never return.
Now Iām very intrigued, I really hadnāt thought there had been anything beyond the great wastes left, save maybe a few patches no bigger than a city block or two. But this is actually good news, because it means the world CAN potentially be salvaged and renewed in due time. Itāll probably take a couple centuries, but it could, in theory, be done, assuming whatās in these intact regions and how big they are.
But now that I think about it, it is kind of obvious there would be, otherwise, yeah, breathable air would start running out pretty quick. Canāt believe I didnāt think of that beforeā¦but then again, it is a comic featuring anthropomorphic critters, soā¦
Iām intrigued by Jimās āOutside our bordersā¦ā and his suggestion that Topsiders are not uncommon outside of said borders. Whose borders is he talking about? If he means the Topsiders boarders, that suggests that the TS are limiting themselves to a certain area that they believe they can control and there is something out there that they are sending troops to fight. Otherwise it suggests that the TS are somewhat balkanized and Jimās group controls an area in the great wastes. Iāll be curious to see how this goes.
But when you get there it seems like the inhabitants there would know more about both mutants and TSers than either does about them. If these intact areas are occupied (which seems likely) then you may or may not be welcome. Or you may be welcome as a form of mutated Soylent Green.
I donāt knowā¦are we sure these guys arenāt really spys trying to find out any info they can use later to destroy all mutants??? I donāt trust themā¦
There is also the possibility that Jimās reference to outside āTopsidersā merely meant that there are other ānormalā people living outside the war zones ā and that they arenāt too partial to strangersā¦
Now which one gets to hold their head out the window??Now here is where Wally and Holly can get evenā¦ā¦ā¦.ARE WE THERE YET?? and so on and so on.Learn them to take them along on a road trip.Holly can use āI got to pee.ā every ten miles or so then ask for more water.Wally can ask for foodā¦..then get car sick and hack up a hair ball.Holly and Wally can start fighting for space.āHe is on my sideā āAm notā āAm tooāāHe is touching me.ā āAm notā āAm tooā and so on.Family road trips can really build lasting memoriesā¦..!!!
This does raise a serious question of why the Topsiders, many of whom seem to really dislike their situation, are so intent on staying in the Great Wasteland. If thereās real vegetation out there, why only stuff that you can suck through the suit and your mind has to be tricked into thinking is something else?
Now that I think of it, how do they make babies if they can never take off their suits?

I wonder if mutation and transformation extended to any of these ālargely intact regions.ā

Uh-oh. That sort of sounds like the other TSers are not APEX, which may be a good thing, or not. This is going to be a bumpy ride.
