Ripley's Believe It or Not by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! for April 26, 2014
Transcript:
Ripley's Believe It or Not! Grave-Sweeping Day is a national holiday each April in China. In 1939, George VI was the first British monarch to visit the United States since the Declaration of Independence 163 years earlier! Astronauts on the international space station fire their dirty underwear into space - water is too precious to do laundry.

That would be a sad sight. Dirty underwear orbiting the Earth.

Don’t we have enough problems with space junk orbiting the Earth?

When the unmanned supply ships are unloaded, the astronauts fill that ship with trash, including all that dirty underwear and send it back where it burns up on reentry…

This might have been a fact from earlier flights

And we wonder why the aliens have never tried to contact us……

Not entirely true. They treat it as trash and it goes down with the rest of the trash. The ISS receives frequent loads of supplies and equipment in disposable capsules. The capsules are loaded with trash and deorbited in a way that they burn re-entering Earth’s atmosphere over the ocean (just to be on the safe side). There’s no underwear orbiting Earth.

Funny that the next day (Sunday’s) Astronomy Pic of the Day was an unneeded space suit filled with dirty laundry…
