Aunt Fritzi: I found THIS in your back-pack, darling. Want to talk about it?
Nancy: NO! It's STUPID! And I'M STUPID for CRYING!
Aunt Fritzi: NO, it isn't and--NO, you're NOT. Everybody cries.
Nancy: Even you?
Guy, you sure have a way with engaging your readers, looking at the comments of late. Here we all are, getting emotionally involved in your imaginary world…..which, at times, so well reflects our realities. Good work.
I remember a Lassie episode with the same theme – Jeff was feeling low because the school was having a father and son event – and Jeff had only his mother and grandfather at home. So, when one of the schoolteachers learned what Jeff’s problem was – he invited Jeff’s mother to be a judge at some of the events – then managed eventually to convince Jeff’s mother to participate in some of the events herself. Eventually, Jeff got the picture, and ended up inviting his mother to participate in some of the events as his partner. Nowadays, it is a rare event when children ave a daily relationship with BOTH of their parents. Plus, of course, Sluggo must be facing some of the same feelings himself.
There are so many children in Nancy’s place today. When I was a Brownie, pre Girl Scout, fifty years ago, we sewed our father’s initial on a handkerchief. Marsha’s father was killed in a car accident. I only remember one other art project we did in as Brownies, so that day stands out. I’m sure it is because Marsha was so sad that I remember it. She was the only one without a father. Imagine what being in that room would be like today. These events are not sensitive to those without fathers.

“And I’m stupid for crying!”
Don’t do that to yourself, Nancy. That’s how many too many unhappy people eventually turn into unhealthy people.

Of course these days, some fool would charge the school with a sex discrimination lawsuit rather than simply ask to use a substitute of some kind.

When does Phil propose to Fritzi so he can take Nancy to the picnic?
