Even tho’ you HAVE the right of way, against some drivers it’s morethan your life is worth to try and exercise it. And that was true evenbefore texting and mobilfones; NOW, their heads are even further upwhere-the-sun-never-shines than ever! Admittedly, it doesn’t helpthat the pedesterian’s head is frequently in the same place for thesame reason. Call it a draw….
Question: I was told when in Arizona, if you got killed or injured while IN a crosswalk, large charges could be filed against the driver. If NOT in a crosswalk, it was Tough Luck, Charlie and the driver got off free…?
At least if you are in the Seattle Washington vicinity it is safer to jaywalk that to use the specified cross walk. Not clear that drivers are actually literate.
Comments are great on this. Dogsniff – yours made me laugh out loud – my kind of humor. dabugger – you don’t have to limit that comment to Seattle.
My take is he was about to mail a letter …. which makes the accident a potential federal offense – interfering with the delivery of the US Mail. …. although I also favor the King Tut shuffle mentioned by Detective Dogsniff.
Our Police Chief hit a guy IN a crosswalk,; he immediately blamed the pedestrian, gave himself a light punishment and never fully explained himself; as you and I would have to do in traffic court. Here’s the video, judge for yourself.http://www.officer.com/video/11174244/video-houston-police-chief-hits-pedestrian
Looks like one of the busier streets in my town (rush hour when the local manufacturing plant lets out for the day) Look both ways….look again……then run Forrest RUN!

Yet he was so close to the crosswalk.

Are you sure this isn’t a warning not to jump from the roof without Annette?

I need to start carrying chalk with me. If I ever happen to see a body outline left on the pavement, I’ll turn it into a drawing of Vitruvian Man.

I hate those drawings, they make me look fat!
gorbag almost 11 years ago
The limbs are twice as long on the right side as the left. That’s one seriously damaged dead guy outline. I wonder if (s)he were born that way…

The drawing should indicate how many points the driver got for hitting the jaywalker.

Shouldn’t the chalk outline have a cell phone in its hand with ear buds?

Allegedly this is how the Brooklyn Dodgers got their name: by playing in traffic.

Are you supposed to draw the outline yourself or wait til the police get there?
todyoung almost 11 years ago
had to have happened in Portland, ME. the only place in America where they drive on whatever side of the road they choose.
ishannon5289 almost 11 years ago
A lot of time there one crosswalk every dozen blocks or so.
pcolli almost 11 years ago
Look right, look left and right again: and if all’s clear….. cross the road. In the US, reverse directions.
