They got home while the parents are still awake?? Must not have been that good. Most teens stay out very late or spend the night somewhere with a group. But most still manage to âcouple upâ during the night.
After all that huge build-up, we couldnât spend more than a couple of days showing the Prom itself, since any more scenes of it would have revealed just how much everyone was having fun and really liked the results of Tiffanyâs hard work and good planning, and in this strip anything that makes Tiffany look good is a strict no-no.

On a POSITIVE Note, P.A.K.s can Help You with Your Smart Phones and make GREAT Tax Deductions, But STILL!!
Not really. In light of the amount of attention devoted to the anticipation of the Prom and then to the saga of getting there, there was remarkably little pay-off in terms of the Prom itself.
Ahh, the mystery of the self-healing clothes is explainedâ after the sticktights are removed, only the clothing waist-down is tattered & torn!*To the folks, it looks like theyâve been fighting each other off.*But real downerâ we do NOT get to see what Crystal & Knute wore! :(
RB â I agree completely with your list of 5 things we also needed to see! Wouldâve especially loved the strip where Ox gets the last dance with Tiff! (Plus Crystal & Knuteâs attire, of course)
Luann and Stone Soup are my two favorite comics. I was so looking forward to a prom story line about all the different characters and what actually happens at the prom. Mr. Evans is usually top notch, but this time he missed the mark with such a short one trick prom story line. I feel awful to complain because I could never do what Mr Evans does wonderfully, but I just felt let down about this short story line. I think a lot of other people were left down also.
Oh well, if this is the worst thing that happens, arenât we all lucky. Mr. Evans keep up the good work â maybe we can have some flashback prom story lines in the future.
Plus, with a good imagination, anything not covered in a story can be left up to us to âsort outâ for ourselves. If we fancy that âsuch and suchâ would happen, then if itâs not covered in that arc, and until something comes up that does , then we can just imagine that the others were there (or not there, if that be our inclination), or that this thing or that thing were done. â And thatâs exactly how it happens when we read a book⊠we supply whatever information the writer deems to be âopenâ or doesnât care to go into particulars over. â Sort of the gist of the song âAnswering Machineâ by Rupert Holmes. (âWell, of course you can write the plot, cos when I called her, this is the answer I gotâŠ.â)
âNormally I would agree, except Evans set up something with Ox and Tiffany and did not follow through on it.â ^Well, think about this: He actually did . As I was mentioning above, we can supply the rest. Not only that, but just that glimpse would be enough to tell whatâs taking place, but we have to be paying attention to it. She promised him a dance. She didnât promise him a âfullâ date. We can imagine that thatâs exactly what took place. â And same as for any other characters. We get a bit of âdirectionâ and if weâre paying attention, all the âcluesâ are right there. Same way that that little bit of radio blurb about the traffic, the fact that Luannâs words seemed a bit of foreshadowing, and that week with her and Tiffany frantically making plans at âKidz 1stâ, where Lu gave the âclueâ about âIf we keep on scheduleâ was actually enough to flesh out the whole storyâŠ..
Any crash you can walk away from is a good landing. I liked this plot BECAUSE it wasnât formulaic. We would have Delta talking about starving kids while they ate cake, Tiffany would be trying to upstage Luann, in other words, same things, different location. As an aside, I spent the night of my Senior prom in the Mekong Delta. Do cammies look good with a cumberbund?
I just get the feeling that he didnât want to dwell on the studentsâ enjoying themselves at the Prom, because it would make Tiffany look good. Better to gloss over that in a single panel, and then send everybody home as soon as possible.
"âŠother than my previously noted conjecture " ^Well, that reason that you gave, in itself, actually seems a solid reason, as you carefully laid out⊠-Same way that âBathroomgateâ tied in to Crystal and Knute in the cafeteria, which in turn, tied in to Les vs. Gunther, which led into he and Rosa discussing a bit of Prom during that time, and to lead it off was their discussion after the new yearsâ dance. It all ties together in different parts. Itâs probably just that we all favor certain characters and situations more than others, so certain things we tend to be more âdismissiveâ of, but in the end, it all comes out and ties together. We just have to pay attention to each âchapterâ, so to speak. â So, returning to what youâve said, it could have been just for the sake of advancing a couple of characters, and the rest we can sort of âpiece togetherâ our own selves, and weâd see that they really do fit in with the restâŠ..
Just in my line of thinking, to me, this is really whatâs going on,too- that if we use our imagination and inference skills, we donât necessarily have to âhave everything spelled outâ, â Same thing happens in other works, and in other fictional mediums. â For example, in Star Trek, there were developments that werenât answered in âThe Original Seriesâ (one being how the Klingons didnât have âforehead ridges in TOS, but did in the moviesâ. Didnât get answered until the âEnterpriseâ series). But many discussed amongst themselves the âwho/what/whereâ. When the movies came out, some things were addressed, some werenât. But people either waited for the next installment or the next series, or just went with their own conjecture. â Same thing with works of art at a museum, or with song lyrics. There arenât âinstructionsâ to tell us how to look at a work of art, or with songs. But if we pay attention, there are âlittle cluesâ to help us get an interpretation out of them.. â So maybe thatâs how we have to look at it. Based on what we know as we read the strip (doesnât matter if we are just beginning or have read for a while). We can pretty much just let our own imaginations âfill in the blanksâ until the time comes that the artist/creator/inventor may choose to âshow usâ where he intends for it to go (sometimes, they didnât have it in mind)âŠ
One more thing: interestingly, thatâs also how some TV shows and even books get started. Some find a way to create a direction to take the original series in a way that the originator didnât anticipate, or never chose to goâŠ. some even from âfan fictionâ of certain works. -Star Trek was originally set as a sort of âBonanza In Spaceâ. Then thereâs Gomer Pyle from Andy Griffifth. I ran across some modern day examples pointed out in an article somewhere, but I have to backtrack and recallâŠ
âSheâs been showing a softer edge lately ( e.g.: with Ox), that may portend further awakenings.â^I noticed that, too. Almost like sheâs done with all the little âskirmishesâ. â Also, she has seemed to âtireâ of fighting with Luann, and walked off, when Luann started âpushing some buttonsâ, and seems to just want to break free from somethingâŠ.
Yeah, youâre right- Meant to say âWagon Trainâ! Iâm sorry I said âBonanzaâ! (shaking my head at myselfâŠ)! -I guess itâs also because I enjoy âBonanzaâ the most out of the westerns (Gunsmoke and a couple others are up there, too).
Each life separately would take several lifetimes to portray. It would be silly to expect all to be shown in detail. So naturally a few throw fits the artist doesnât. It would be sad if it were not so silly. Thanks for the laughs.

Thereâs also a network somewhere that shows the westerns that are more obscure⊠I canât remember itâs name, though. â Sometimes TV Land has Bonanza and Gunsmoke on at nearly similar times to MeTV. Oh, that TV Land. How it used to show all the classics (including some classic commercials!)âŠ
Ha ha!! â Thereâs a life-size Spock cutout standing in a thrift store (one thatâs truly unique and long-standing in itâs own right) that I keep saying âI wonder what theyâd want for itâ.. â A couple of decades later, Iâm still saying âMaybe I should ask what itâll go forâ⊠â I figure since itâs still there, it must be something âfor display onlyâ. after all these years⊠but then again, the same cashier is also still in there! = *(actually, theyâve always been a pretty nice person to deal with and good at what they do, all things considered!)âŠ
I graduated midterm and went on to college. About one percent of me says I missed something when I didnât go to the Senior Ball (not Prom @ my h.s.). Ninety-nine percent of me says I did the right thing. Iâm glad Luann is happy. What is right for one isnât necessarily right for the other.
