Richard Nixon: Leonard, as my counsel, I think it's about time you took a look at these transcripts of the secret tapes... As you can see, there are many frank and candid remarks which, if taken out of context, might create a false impression. Leonard: Yessir. I can see one here on page two. Richard Nixon: Which one's that? Leonard: "Well, John, how's the cover-up going?" Richard Nixon: Right! A good example! Leonard: Yessir. It could be misinterpreted.

One thing Watergate did was bring to an end the recording of conversations and meetings in the Oval Office.Every President since FDR had recording devices for posterity. They wanted the world to know — at some time in the future — the inner workings of their Presidency.Watergate brought an end to that.-Leonard is Leonard Garment, Nixon’s White House Counsel.

@ne7minder55Yeah, the longer the war, the more money being made. Also, voters tend to stick with the prez they have during conflicts. I could be wrong but maybe that’s one reason why Bush 41 wasn’t reelected and one reason why Bush 43 was reelected. Nixon prolonged the war and was reelected.
