The diving act of panel 1 is common in GT and other strips. Is there any way the diver can avoid landing flat on the ground before taking the required heroic action that follows.
I can’t figure out what base that’s supposed to be. If Amy fielded a pop bunt and threw to second, the ball should be coming from a totally different angle.
In all reality, the curvevature of the infield dirt in P2 suggests the runner was doubled up at second base. As former Secretary of State Alfred E Neuman used to say , What Me Worry ?
Apparently, the only kids who know how to slide properly practice the art of the slide tackle for MIlford’s soccer team, which is the only team in this strip that wins—not that we ever follow them.
Short stop #4 should get credit for hustling and covering third base….the only way this works, perspective-wise is a pop to third, caught, runner on third caught off base. Fire Goshens third base coach as well, the play develops right in front of him/her and this happens??
Okay, here is the final word on the play.Amy caught the bunt in the air, could not turn a double play otherwise after diving. The runner was on second, trying to get back. Can’t be firstbase because you can see the curve of the infield, there is no firstbaseline. The problem is the angle of the throw is wrong, it should be closer to coming over the runner’s head, unless Amy caught the ball on or close to the outfield grass, which was not the case based on P1, she was diving towards home of course.THE END.
Yeah. I just wish they’d keep up more with what the teams are actually doing. Are they 5-1, 6-7, we never know.
All at once something that has drug on for months closes in half a strip. Then in the last panel the next phase starts and we never really knew what happened.

the runner is coming from first to second, the throw is coming from third, it is shown correctly

assuming the pop-up wasn’t caught in the air

It’s 1st base. Amy caught the pop up, and doubled off the runner on first, who happened to erroneously be taking the short cut to home.

In all reality, its time to critique Amys swing in P3, does it qualify for a WAK or PING ?

It would appear the Goshen girls are now trying to duplicate that stumbling chest slide the Milford girls were perfecting earlier in the season.

Good to see an emphasis on actual sports action in this story line.

I believe the runner was between 2nd and 3rd on the bunt and is trying to get back to 2nd base.
