Why would he be carrying a pen with no ink?

He may need bandages.

I’ve found the pen I’m carrying no longer works. I think he’s getting back at Opal for the Stain-Stick-that-turned-out-to-be-a-permanent-marker incident.

So this is how retired people entertain themselves. Taking notes…

I wish SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED would ask for a pen instead of a credit card. Yes Dear.

5 Phones.5 Pens and paper next to them…PET PEAVE… People call for directions and when their asked if they have a pen… they say hold on a minute….If your calling for information BE READY.

Probably her friend giving Opal a recipe.

And she has a cordless phone, so she could have gotten up and found a pen in the time it took to figure that out. Back in the day, you were limited to what you could reach from the cord range.

Earl is just getting even.

Opal, you should have the pencil with a tiny eraser instead of pen. Why? Because Earl gives you the pen with no ink.
