Cathy Classics by Cathy Guisewite for February 15, 2010
Transcript:
Saleswoman: Before Valentine's Day, we fixated on lips. We scrutinized lips, compared lips and spent a small fortune on lips. After Valentine's Day, some will choose to return a few things! Their eyes, cheeks, chins, necks and foreheads! Cathy: I got a good peek in the magnifying makeup mirror and am ready to hand over the rest of my face!!

What is wrong with aging, and being proud of the lines and wrinkles that living life has given you? We need to be less obsessed with âeternal youthâ and more cognizant of the wealth of wisdom that older people have garnered.

Well said Avolunteer! We need to find a way to get the world to find old age beautiful. I know a lot of beautiful older people.

First off, donât look in the magnifying mirror. Find the light that is flattering to you and keep your glasses off. Then hang out with people who love you for who you are, not what you look like. If your husband isnât part of that group, then leave him. Finally, but most importantly, be happy with yourself.

I figured I earned every wrinkle or silver hair I have, Iâm going to be proud of them! (And silver sounds so much prettier than gray.)

I wish our country were full of Rmoms, lightenups, and Avolunteers- at least our attitudes towards those older than 30. I donât know where our attitudes came from, but Cathy is a lot more in touch with what I hear and see in society, in huge, icky, painful doses than us idealists here.

That was my first thought Lightenup, thereâs a much cheaper solution here: THROW OUT THE MAGNIFYING MAKE-UP MIRROR!! Oh and hang the idiot who came up with THAT idea!
What I think those wrinkles and grey hairs are, like you guys said, a mark of life. Why cover them up? You earned them! And theyâre not wrinkles, theyâre wisdom and laugh lines! And your hair isnât going grey, itâs turning silver and isnât that a precious metal?! Youâre just getting wiser and more precious as the years pass! ;)

Whoever thought up that mirror wanted to use it to sell more âproductâ, of course. And he succeeded.

Thatâs it, fix yourself all up Cathy. Summer is coming and you could snag a new boy toy to replace the loser.
