Frazz by Jef Mallett for August 10, 2014
Transcript:
Girl: The eensy weensy spider went up the water spout. Down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain. And the eensy weensy spider went up the spout again. I want to add a verse, but I can't think of a rhyme for "flat learning curve". Frazz: The songwriters rhymed "rain" with "again". They're not picky.

Who drinks from the eavestrough spout?

Wait. “Rain” can rhyme with “again”, at least it can where I live. It kinda makes Frazz’s point fall a bit flat.

The eensy-weensy spider went up the waterspout.Down came the rain, but nothing else came out.Chuckled the spider: “That was worth the painspending my afternoon rerouting the drain.”

As re-written by a friend of mine for his young daughters:
The arachnid of diminutive stature climbed up the home drainage system. Down came a 20% chance of precipitation and flooded him into oblivion. Out came an incandescent orb and caused an evaporation, and like Sisyphus of Greek mythology, he resumed his futile effort.

If the spider waited until it stopped raining to try to ascend the spout, how is that an example of “flat learning curve”?

The BIG HAIRY TARANTULA went up the water spout; along came the fire truck & washed the spider out: out came the sun & dried up all the rain: & the BIG HAIRY TARANTULA said “I won’t do that again!” (from “Itsy Bitsy Tarantella”)
