I had braces as teenager, never wore my retainer, and 30+ years later my teeth have shifted ever so slightly and they still look so much better than my pre-braces days.

Both my kids got braces in grade school. When I was in my forties I wound up with braces to help correct a jaw problem. I decided that I should have been arrested for child abuse. My kids (now in their forties), tend to agree, but apparently feel that going to jail might have been a bit excessive.
