John: Please, can't you just put him in remedial? Let Stan handle it? Principal: I though about that, but then we got his standardized test scores. John: What, is he as smart as the other kids? Principal: John, the boy is smarter than you. We were going to give him your job. John: Really?! Principal: I'm joking John. Well, joking about the job, sorta. But he is definitely smarter than you. John: Thanks.

To paraphrase Brother Mouzone—“You know what the most dangerous thing in America is, right? A black man with a library card.”

Some of my teachers handled it well and encouraged and mentored me. One was turned on by it and tried to seduce me, pity I didn’t return her interest, she was cute. Most felt threatened and could not deal with it and I had to deal with thinly masked hostility and passive-aggressive horse-hockey until I graduated.

Attitudes and condensation? What does condensing feel like? Sounds painful. People are probably mocking you when they say “you are so well spoken”.

@mugens, Oh, dear. I think you meant “condescension”, but it’s condescending for me to point that out, isn’t it? What a conundrum. I’m guessing that was an auto-correct problem in your device. Those auto-correct programs cause so many problems, I just keep mine turned off. The point of the comic and of your post is still good, but that little malapropism kind of messes it up a bit, no?

I was able to retire when I was 48 years old. Back then my wife and I were surrounded by close fiends and family, to get away from all the questioning and prying, 3 years later, when our youngest graduated from HS, we sold the house( We had 2 offers within 24 hours sold for $60K over asking, with 4 bidders fighting over it, in less than a month.) and moved 2000 miles away. We went from living in the country to living in the nations 7th largest city, built a new house-paid cash for it-and we do not have any friend or relative wanting anything, mostly because we did not give anyone except our 4 kids our phone number. It was the only way to stay sane. The kids are taken care of for life and we get to spend our money however we want to.Everyone we knew wanted something, took it for 3 years before we finally said, To hell with this, we are gone.
