Huey (on phone): No, I'm looking for Clarence Carter...uh-huh, Carter. You never heard "Strokin'"? It's blues... What about Johnnie Taylor? No Johnnie Taylor? What about Bobby "Blue" Bland? Look, I need a cheap gift for my Granddad, and he likes the blues. What blues you got? Erik Clapton?! I said blues!! Don't make me come down there and smack somebody...I have stress issues!

Actually, you can – you can go with any of the actual blues artists Hughey mentions (plus 1000s more) instead of English boys trying to sound like said artists. Clapton is a great rock guitarist; he’s maybe a fair blues guitarist.

When in doubt; Willie Dixon.

Can’t go wrong with Lightnin’ Hopkins, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Big Bill Broonzy, Blind Willie Johnson, or John Lee Hooker to say nothing of the last of the great blues masters, Mr. B. B. King.

Can you imagine what Mr. McGuder would have done with this strip now when everyone is crying about “appropriation”.

When in doubt make the choice the complete recordings of Robert Johnson. Can’t go wrong with that.
