Transcript:
Lemming 1: okay, guys, this is it... The dramatic end to our sad little Lemming lives... Alright, Bob, you jump to your death first. Lemming 2: i can't I'm already touching the ground. Lemming 1: We need to stagger our jumping times.
Seriously though, I agree with other posters, whatâs with the lemmings arcs? Theyâre not very funny, and we all know that lemmings donât jump off cliffs.
Gary Larson did the ultimate lemming cartoon years ago, probably in the 80s. Far Side fans know the one I mean. Pastis is trying to recapture that moment of comics gold.
Pastis peaked over 10 years ago with the âThat bug zapperâs a godsendâ cartoon (which is still one of my all-time favorites). Except for the puns, itâs been all downhill since then.
I like the lemmings and the puns are great too. Keep up the good work Stephan. If the moaners really didnât like your strip they would not be reading it everyday.
Iâm surprised gocomics didnât stop publication of this comic , in light of recent suicide by Robin Williams. Though Iâm sure Robin would have been tickled by it himself
I know this was written and drawn probably months ago, but this is bad timing, because actor/comedian Robin Williams took his own life yesterday :( may he rest in peace
One thing about the lemmings arcs is that theyâre visual. Mort Walker was once told by an editor: âIf you cover up the art and your comic strip is still funny, youâre not a cartoonist, youâre a writer.â (That being said, Iâve often wanted to see âPogo Without Artâ simply for the great dialogueâŠâŠ.)
I like the lemmings. The only character I donât care for is the hippo. My friend isnât a huge fan of the crocs, which I donât get because I love them. My point is, everyone has favorites and Pastis shouldnât kill off any of them. Not that it matters because he brings them all back to life at some point.
I Love Pearls. Best comic since Calvin and Hobbes and the Far Side. I think this strip, however, is poorly times with the death of Robin Williams. Just my opinion.
I wish Pastis would stop the lemming jokes mostly because they are a constant reminder of Disneyâs horrible slaughter of lemmings just to make a stupid movie. It has been repeated so many times people think lemmings do jump off cliffs. Why not go for the Disney jugular and do a series of strips about them driving them off the cliff? Others have successfully taken on animal testing, etc through the comics. Why not this?

This arc is over the cliff. And somewhat hyperbolic.

Donât understand what people have against lemmings. For me, a gin and tonic wouldnât be the same without a slice of one.

Jeanne Brimat over 10 years ago
REALLY tired of lemmings jumping off cliffs strips.

Why may I askâŠBob is always first? how about Mort or Zeke or even Susie Sue, or is that her, giving the orders?
scopemaker over 10 years ago
Yes, stupid. But I couldnât help reading this in Robin Williams voice.

Hey Stef the lemming stuff doesnât work very well. Seems as if it is the same joke over and over and over.

So your basically saying that we should not expect every one of Pastisâ offerings to be a Pearl.

Yep. Thatâs a good idea.

The last lemming to jump should just push off and make them all fall at the same time
